I couldn't believe my luck. For the first summer ever Spy Camp had been canceled. I was going to go home and spend the summer with my parents and Mike who would be coming with me, or so I thought. That was until Erica's mother said otherwise.
It was the last day of school and I was busy packing up my clothing and belongings when my door opened and Catherine Hale walked in.
"Hello Benjamin!" she quipped in her cheery British accent. "may I come in?"
"Well- your already in so sure!" I gave her a quick smile then turned back to my suitcase. She came over and began helping me pack.
"What are you doing this summer?"
"Oh I'm planning to go home and visit my parents with Mike, maybe go to Virginia Beach."
"How would you like to spend the summer at a lake house?" Catherine asked.
"What do you mean?"
"Erica, Alexander and I use to spend our summers at our lake house in Maine. We have decided to go back this summer since Erica doesn't have camp. She wanted to invite you! Would you like to join us?" startled, I accidentally dropped a pile of tee shirts on the floor, blushing profusely.
"Wow! Um- why didn't Erica come ask me?" I blurted. Catherine smiled devilishly.
"She was embarrassed, so she asked me to invite you and not tell you that it was her idea. You know Erica." I was grinning ear to ear. As much as I missed my family I loved the idea of spending the summer with Erica at a lake house, watching the sun set, swimming, roasting marshmallows, maybe having fun for once.
"I would love to go!" I said to Catherine.
"Wonderful!" she grinned. "Well lets get you packed!"
