In the darkness, two shadows, reaching through the hopeless, heavy dusk. Their hands meet, and light spills out in a flood like a hundred golden urns pouring out of the sun.

There are no words, only the soft roar of eons of longing fulfilled at last. Whispers reminiscent of thoughts screaming in the battlefield, regrets from the middle of waves of blood, the blessing of contentment from the familiarity of an embrace.

Perhaps it is the blood of the gods that haunts the veins of one shadow; he flickers with a warmth that cuts through Hades' realm. In his arms, the other can only clasp onto him, aching in the relief of knowing that they will never again be without the other.

As mortals, they had recognized each other by touch alone, by smell. They would've known the other blind, by the way their breaths came, and their feet struck the earth. They had sworn that they would've known each other in death, at the end of the world.

"Patroclus," one whispers.

"Achilles," the other gasps at the same time.

Their murmurs reach one another through the gloom of the underworld. And for the first time in millennia, they smile, their faces like the sun.
