Akaashi spent the morning cleaning up vomit. It wasn't his first time, and would most likely be far from his last. For the past two days, he and Hajime had been helping their mother sober up in order for her to attend his older brother's graduation. She said she wanted to see her kids graduate, no matter what. Akaashi had to admit that he was proud of her.
The boys picked out an old dress of hers from upstairs. It was the nicest she had looked in a long time and Akaashi found himself smiling.
"Haji," she said happily, "my firstborn is finally leaving the nest." Iwaizumi gave their mother a hug and helped her down the stairs. "To be honest, you left the nest a long time ago." Akaashi was proud of his brother. Even though they didn't have a normal relationship, Keiji did owe a lot to Hajime. He was brave and strong in the ways Keiji was not. Akaashi truly admired him.
"Thank you Okaasan," his brother grinned. Akaashi scurried to the closet to get her shoes. "I'm really glad you're getting the chance to meet Oikawa's parents."
"Keiji is dating someone too, Okaasan," he added, taking the shoes from Akaashi. Their mother turned to look at her youngest.
"Really. And will I have the pleasure of meeting this fine young person today?"
"Yes." She nodded, seemingly pleased.
"How wonderful."
Everyone was dressed in formal attire. Akaashi wore a white button down and dark blue pants. He had a pair of shiny dress shoes to match the outfit. Iwaizumi was dressed in his cap and gown. Underneath, he wore a matching shirt and pants. Their mother had on an old sundress and elegant slippers.
Akaash locked the door behind them.
The drive was silent. Akaashi looked out the windows from the back seat as he thought about his brother and their year. After coming back from Disneyland with Oikawa apparently, they had gotten together. His brother hardly ever showed his emotions, much like himself. Although, these days, Akaashi could tell that Iwaizumi walked taller, talked louder, and was overall more confident and happy. Seeing his brother happy made him happy in ways he couldn't explain.
It had been two weeks since they'd gotten together and Akaashi had lost track of how much time Iwaizumi spent at Oikawa's house. When Hajime was away all night, he had the house practically to himself. He did not have to worry about bothering people when he practiced. It was back to a quiet house when Hajime was away. It wasn't that his half brother was extremely loud when he was home but Akaashi knew that things could get loud between him and their mother.
Oikawa was a good thing for Iwaizumi. Anyone could see that. It didn't matter if they were fighting or making out, they were true soulmates. They were also going to the same university. Hajime would probably want to live with Oikawa. Then Akaashi would really have the whole place to himself. He sighed at the speculation of the future. Time really did fly by quickly.
When they drove closer to the school it was clear that there was barely any parking available. Luckily, Hajime was able to find a spot just in front of a store across the way. Balloons and posters could be seen decorating the field from where they were standing. It was going to be a huge celebration. Hajime leaving would be tough, although Akaashi was sure he'd be able to handle it.
The two half brothers helped their mother out of the car and towards the school. A lady behind a desk leading up to the school's doors directed Hajime inside and he and his mother were led around back to the football field. Rows of chairs were set up and the stage was lit. Akaashi found two open spots in the aisle. The view wasn't half bad.
His mother was looking through the program the receptionist gave her as Akaashi looked around for Bokuto's family. Akaashi's mother would be in this state for a limited time. He wanted to make use of it. Akaashi turned his head to look for a sea of platinum blonde hair that would belong to the Bokuto family. It wasn't hard to spot. The family sat a few rows down, chattering excitedly amongst each other. Akaashi pointed them out to his mother and helped her up to go talk to them.
