Things have kinda blown over with the whole, "wow! Jack kissed kaylee" thing, and for that i am SO thankful because now i don't have to avoid eye contact with everyone besides warren. Now, i can actually look deep into the doctor and jack's eyes and nothings weird... for the most part anyway. I'm just glad that we're all back to being... normal, if you can call us that, friends, i've really missed them. It's been really hard lying to warren about how good his baking is and letting him paint my nails, as much as i enjoy his company, fifteen coats of nail polish and twenty batches of rock-hard, charred cookies is too much to handle.

"Hey guuurl! Can you try my new batch? I think i got the recipe right this time!!" Warren yelled from down the hall. Aw, crap. No way, no how am.i EVER looking at another one of those stinking pieces of cement. I sprinted down the hall, grabbing my jacket out of my room, it's supposed to be cold out today.

"Sorry, warren! The doctor's dropping me off home so i can open my gallery, remember? I've got...artsy stuff to do!" Yeah, that's a good excuse. And a tue one, too! My first ever gallery is premiring today and i've got to go home so i can actually do things to help... it is my opening and all. I blindly threw my hair up in a messy bun and raced through the labyrinth of corridors, "doctor are you-" Oof! I ran into something, feels like a person, wears clothes like a person, but smells like infinity...ew, "doctor!"

"I was just going to look for you," he smiled, "hello! We're here!"

"Finally! I can't wait to see... earth!"

He laughed, "and i can't wait to see what autum's got in store for us...the leaves should be a vibrant vermillion this time of year and the monarchs will be migrating towards the Sierra Madre Oreiantal Mountains about now and..." he babbled on like he always does about science and other stuff that doesn't make sense to me and grabbed my hand, he dragged me into the console room where we were greeted by a moody looking jack. I instantly let go of the doctor's hand.

I looked down at where she had let go of my hand... i was disappointed that she had, how i felt all cold. Hoping that my reluctance didn't show on my face, i jammed my hands into my pocket and played with my tie. Kaylee was searching through my pockets... but why?

"Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey! Didn't you ever learn not to play with soemthing that's not yours??"

She rolled her eyes, put on my glasses, used her index finger and shoved them up to the bridge of her nose, then made my sonic screwdriver's blue light flicker. She pointed it to jack's face, right in between his eyes, "apparently, now that i'm the doctor, i know alot of thing and speak mumbo jumbo, but the sonic never lies. and signs show that you are grumpy, " she cocked her head to the side, "what's wrong?"

If warren ever heard me think this, i'd be screwed, but that was totally adorable.

I wanted to scream in her face, "you're what's wrong with me!!!" Kaylee knows that pretty much everything she does, every move she makes makes me want her even more, but seeing her all happy and smiley with the doctor, while that's great that she's happy, i hate that it's with him and not with me.

So, i faked a smile and shifted my position, "i was just wondering when you were going to invite me to this art show i keep hearing about."

She blushed, looking stunning, as always and looked down, making the glasses slide to the end of her nose, "it's nothing, really. I didn't want to bother you."

"I wouldn't miss it for the world."

She grinned and slipped her hand into mine... and the doctor's, curse him, and pulled us out of the TARDIS into her world.

Seeing the crisp... vermillion, as the doctor would say, leaves and the rusty old swingset and the chipped paint on my aunt's house was amazing, it felt so good to be home. After taking it all in, in what seemed to be a natural amount of time, i turned promptly around and smiled, "and now for the tour."

~doctor's p.o.v.~

As kaylee marched us through her backyard and around the exterior of the house, i noticed a few things that her and jack didn't quite seem to pick up on. For instance, there are cracks in the upper left window on the second floor shaped as congruent hearts. And the petunias in the flowerbed look... weird, almost 2-D, as if the shading, instead of by the sun, was.done by a... pencil. I squatted on the ground, and sniffed the dirt.

"Doctor?" Kaylee turned around, "are you alright?"

"Yes... but i don't think your lawn is, this grass needs to be cut!" Of course that was a cover up for what i actually thought, but when i got up, smiled and shoved my hands in my trench coat pockets, she didn't seem to notice. But if she had, i would've had to explain the strange different colors each of the blades of grass were, and that a lawn mower usually cuts each blade down to the same size, but these went from tallest to shortest... almost planned.

Kayled interrupted my train of thought, " guys, i need to go inside to grab a few things, so, play nice, okay?" She did the hand motion for 'got my eyes on you' and pushed them into jack's chest. I snorted. She smiled over her shoulder and disappeared through the door.

Climbing up the creaky, old, termite-eaten stairs, and moth ball rug that laid over them was like watching an old movie that i couldn't quite remember the ending to... I felt out of place and akward, but that shouldn't have mattered, this is... was my home. Home is where the heart is, right? I shivered, jeez this place is drafty! I came to the landing and enterd a long, narrow hallway, i felt sick. My father had died here. My mind flashed to that day, a place, a time i didn't want to remember... ever. I shoved it to the darkest, safest corner of my brain and let thoughts of art and design enter. I got the key for my room door out from beneath my shirt, attached to the silver chain my mother gave me before she passed, i always keep it near to my heart. After fumbling and jumbling aroung with the keys after what seemed like forever, the keyhole finally clicked and i went into the subject of my dreams, my home.

I felt my breath get caught in my throat and i inhaled sharply, years forming in my eyes.

"Are you okay?" I heard my father's voice, i felt his soft touch on my shoulder. i felt my face nuzzling into his hand, it cut me. I was bleeding.

"Dad, you hurt me..." Then it hit me, "dad... you're dead..." I turned around slowly ,right in front of me was my father, smiling kindly. Suddenly his face turned hard, cruel, evil and the last thing i remember is a flash of blue light.
