I tumbled through the darkness, moments from my past zipping past me with voices echoing all around. Some of the memories I had forgotten long ago, others I couldn't forget if I tried.

Daddy! Daddy! Look what I found! It's a butterfly! Isn't it pretty?!......

Ozzy! C'mere boy! C'mon! You can do it!.....

It's okay, Lar. We weren't always strangers........

I'm a slug baby, no shell over here.......

Many leaves, one tree. We're all individuals, but we're still connected. No one's alone......

Yeah, he'll be fine. Their heads are like rocks....uh..uh..smart rocks........

You're really leaving!.......

Put your arms around me!.........

I woke with a gasp, my eyes flying open only to stare straight into the face of a stranger.

With a squeal I fall out of bed and back away until my back hits a wall, all the while keeping my eyes on the mysterious little girl in front of me.

"Who are you?! And what're you doing in my room?!" I demand as I desperately move my hands around in search of something to defend myself. It is only now that I realise where I am, and it's definitely not my bedroom.

The room wasn't like anything I'd seen before. The walls were covered top to bottom in different kinds of herbs, each one different from the last. The bed that I'd fallen out of was made out of twigs and there were random oversized objects tossed haphazardly around the room.

There was a hot pink comb standing in the corner of the room that was being used as a drying rack, a bucket of needles sitting next to what I think is a thimble, and a pile of hair ties lying on a table.

The strangest thing of all was the giant hole in one of the walls, the edges were really smooth like someone had spent hours sanding it to perfection. I felt my breath hitch as I approached the hole and looked out.

The first thing I saw was green, lots of it. The next thing I saw were leaves, thousand of them all swaying in the breeze. The last thing I noticed however was that I was now miles above the forest floor.

I'm in a tree. That wasn't an ordinary storm. I'm tiny again.

"No way......" I mumble as I continue to stare out what I could only guess must be a door. It was early morning now, maybe about an hour before the sun would rise.

The little girl giggled at my reaction and I quickly turn my head back to her, only to end up staring open mouthed as she did some kind of loop de loop in the air, this is when I realise that her feet were constantly hovering a couple inches off the ground.

The little girl was almost completely transparent with sliver hair that seemed to float around her, her dress was made out of a light blue flower and stopped just below her knees. Not only this but she had a happy expression on her face, as if we were old friends meeting for the first time in years.

"Hello! I'm Melody!" She exclaimed, a big smile resting on her face. She seemed to be really excited about something.

"You have no idea how long I've been waiting for you! I tried my best to send you a message but dream casting is pretty hard when the other person is so far away but I managed to make it work with a little help from the books the old Queen gave me, that being said it definitely wasn't easy!" The little girl continued to ramble on until I realised that unless I stopped her, this conversation wasn't going to go anywhere.

"Whoa hang on a second! What happened? Why were you calling to me?" I ask, memories from the night before crossing my mind. The voice, the forest, the freak storm. "And how am I tiny again?"

Melody paused in her ramblings and blinked at me. Then her eyes widened  and she flew out the door "Oh! Right, hang on!" She called out.

"H-hey! Wait!" But I'm too late, she's already gone.

This was not how I imagined my return to the forest would go, obviously I'd been back many times before but those times were as a stomper, it was different. My heart squeezed as a memory of me and Nod hanging out in a meadow came to mind.

Nod......

I really hoped everyone was okay, at least now that I was tiny again it'd be easier for me to move around and hopefully find my friends.

It wasn't long before Melody reappeared again, this time with what I recognised as boggan armour.

"What's that for?" I asked.

"For you, silly! You're going to need a disguise if you want to get anywhere near Wrathwood!" She chirped, still smiling as if she hadn't just mentioned me going back to that place of nightmares.

"Wrathwood?! Why would I go there?!" That was one part of the forest that I'd be glad to never see again.

"To go help Nod and Ronin obviously!" She smiled as she then proceeded to shove some kind of dark fur over me.

"Help? Are they in trouble? What's going on?" Struggling a little to free my arms, she forced the skull of some insect over my head.

Looking down I noticed that it looked a lot like what I'd worn the last time I'd been to Wrathwood, only difference being that these smelled a lot better then the boggan armour I'd had before.

"Perfect! This should allow you to get close enough to wait until Nod and Ronin fly past, you'll be on your own then" she said as she looked me up and down.

Just as I'm about to ask her once again what the heck was going I'm interrupted by a loud squawk and the sound of wings. Now blocking the entrance was a large black bird with a saddle strapped to its back.

"This is your ride! His name is Carl, if you ever need a lift just whistle and he'll be there!" She exclaimed while pushing me towards the beady-eyed bird.

"He-hey! Stop! I'm not going anywhere until you explain exactly what's going on!" I'd had enough, she wasn't making any sense and for all I know she could be trying to trick me.

I'd dug my heels into the wooden floor and turned around to stare the little girl down. She looked slightly shocked at my outburst but quickly recovered with a serious expression on her face.

"I know you have no reason to trust me Mary Katherine but I need your help, the forest needs your help" she pleaded, tears filling her eyes.

"How do you know my name? And why do you need my help? What's wrong with the forest?" I ask, my brows crinkling in confusion. She takes a deep breath before opening her mouth again,

"The forest is dying Mary Katherine, and you're the only one who can save it."

Just a quick thanks to _eclipseyl for commenting, it was really nice to know someone liked my story. I hope you liked the new chapter.
