Chapter 5 - Put Your Arms Around Me!

Nod POV
A painful jolt racked my body as I was suddenly yanked upwards and away from the treetops. The familiar feeling of a birds claws were wrapped around my torso as it flapped its wings.

Noticing that the trees were getting further and further away I try twisting around in the bird's hold to get a better view of the rider, but the tight grip of what I now realise is a crow halts my movements. Just as I'm about to shout to the rider, the world spins and that feeling of weightlessness returns as I'm tossed into the air.

"Wo-woah!"

I land roughly behind the rider and nearly fall back off the bird if not for the rider dragging me back into the middle of the saddle, their hair whipping me in the face as they face forward again. The bird had thrown me into the air and then swooped around to catch me on its back.

We were flying towards Ronin who had already defeated the other boggin and was now looking down at us with his usual stony expression. It was only when the rider stopped in front of him that I realised they were wearing boggin armour.

"Nice catch," Ronin nodded at the rider, an almost imperceptible smile on his face. My brows furrow in confusion, did Ronin know them? Just as I'm about to ask, a horn goes off in the distance.

"We should get out of the open" Ronin says, his face blank once again as he dives into the forest.

"Wait wait before we do anything, who are you?" I ask the rider, they had turned slightly to hear me and I catch a brief glimpse of their eyes.

Those eyes......

I hear a small chuckle come from the rider before they face forward and adjust their grip on the birds feathers.

"Put your arms around me" they say, amusement clear.

My heart stops as I process what she just said. There was no mistaking it, her hair, her eyes, her voice, it was her.

I barely have time to wrap my arms around her waist before she gives a swift kick to the bird's side and we dive off into the trees.

She's here. She's actually here. MK is here.

I can't believe it and yet there's no other person it could be, now that I'm paying closer attention I can't believe I didn't notice it right away. I unconsciously tighten my grip as we pull out of the dive and glide gently through the forest, a stark contrast to the hectic battle just a few moments before.

We spot Ronin standing under a tree root that was sticking out of the ground and MK pulls on the crow's feather slightly to guide him towards Ronin. We land softly and I waste no time getting off to see MK properly.

She swings her leg over the bird and drops onto the ground, she turns around and pulls off the boggin helmet.

"Hey guys, long time no see" she smiles.

For a moment I just stand there. It doesn't matter how many times I see her, she still manages to make my whole world slow down. My stomach fills with butterflies and it feels as if my heart stops and speeds up at the same time.

She's back.

Then the world speeds up again and I feel a smile stretch across my face. I quickly take a few steps forward and pull her into a hug. She wraps her arms around me and laughs as I spin her through the air.

Finally coming to a stop, I put her down and she turns toward Ronin who gives her a slight nod, his mouth twitching upwards. She lets out a short breathy laugh and pulls him into a hug, he stiffens at first but it doesn't take long before he returns the gesture.

"I really missed you guys, I got worried when everyone stopped responding" she says as she pulls away from Ronin, his face back to its usual stony expression.

"We missed you too but, what are you doing here? And how are you tiny again?" I ask incredulously. As far as I know, the current Queen is still learning how to harness her powers properly, and turning MK tiny again isn't exactly what one would call an easy feat.

She let's out a nervous chuckle as she responds, face unsure.

"That's kind of a long story..........."

MK POV
I tell them everything that's happened in the past few hours and try not to leave anything out.

"Sooo basically what you're saying is that a floating little girl brought you here, told you where to find us and that you're the only one who can save the forest?" Nod ask, a slightly confused look on his face.

"Yes?" I reply, even to me this sounds a little ridiculous and I was now 2 inches tall.

"A spirit of the forest huh? Tara used to talk about them, said they protected the very essence of the forest. They are said to only show themselves when the forest is in great danger, if the person you met really was a spirit then we're in even bigger trouble then I thought" Ronin said, a dark look on his face.

"What kind of trouble are we in exactly? I'm still kinda confused about that," I say as I look at Nod.

He has a serious look on his face as he processes everything he's just heard, I couldn't tell from my usual height but he's gotten taller since the last time I was this size. He's also gained more muscle, this along with the fact that he's gotten older makes him seem more mature.

I look back to Ronin when he suddenly speaks up.

"We shouldn't stay here much longer, we can explain everything once we get back to Moonhaven."

It's only now that I notice the bird Nod was flying before has returned and is currently pruning it feathers next to Carl. Ronin wastes no time before jumping onto his bird and taking to the sky.

I go to mount Carl but he quickly takes off after Ronin, leaving me behind. Slightly shocked, I turned to Nod who wasn't even trying to hide his amusement.

"I guess your riding with me then" he says, his hand outstretched towards me and a smirk on his face.

Sorry it's taken me so long to update even tho I said I'd try to keep it regular 😅 I had a bit of trouble thinking of what comes next since I don't really have a plot in mind and I just got back to face to face schooling.
