THE WRONG
BRIDE

Chapter Nine.

"Dadddddddddddddd!" I squeal so loudly when I enter the house and see Dad sitting at the dining table, about to have dinner.

"Emerald?" He questions, as though he cannot believe it is me.

"Yes, Dad. Surpriseeee!"

"Oh my dear child!" He laughs, getting up from his seat and tackling me into a hug. From behind him, I see Nicole wince and Hannah frown at the term he just used. Take that bitches! I'm his favourite child.

Grey hair has started to appear in my dad's brunet strands, his green eyes staring at me with so much love after he releases me from the hug.

"Nanny, she came and no one told me?" He asks, looking at Nanny Esther.

"Dad, I told her not to. I wanted it to be a surprise" I say, the wide grin on my face still present. A surprise that I am surprised Hannah and her spawn of a devil daughter has not ruined, but then again come to think of it, they don't like me that much to announce my presence, especially to Dad.

"Oh my dear, I have missed you so much. What are you doing back?"

"Ouch Dad" I feign hurt "You almost sound like you don't want me here"

"Dear, you know that is nonsense. Come on, we were just about to have dinner. Mashed potatoes in soup, the one you love so much. I was thinking of you even, and to my wonderful surprise, here you are!" He laughs again, pulling me with him to the dining table.

"Mashed potatoes in soup? Dad, you just made me Christmas"

"Don't thank me. Thank your Nanny Esther, I guess she wanted to make you something nice since you are here"

"Thank you so much Nanny, you used granny's recipe?"

"Of course." She responds with a smile

"Your grandmother was the best cook" Dad's says and I nod in agreement.

It is amazing how when it is just me and Dad, I forget that Hannah and Nicole are present. It is only when she passes for the table salt to sprinkle on her fries and chicken because according to her, "Who eats mashed potatoes in soup?", that is only when I notice that she is still here, alongside her mom.

"So why did you come all of a sudden unannounced? I could have thrown you a welcome party. It has been so long since my colleagues met my daughter. It would have been a nice way for all of us to take a break from work too"

"Oh Dad, using me as a excuse to party now, I see?"

He chuckles before saying, "Not to brag, but as the owner of a multimillion dollar company, I take a break every chance I can get"

"Then I am your new chance alright" I chuckle "Well remember my bestfriend Sara?"

"Yes. What about her?"

"Well, she is getting married, and she wanted me here, so I had to come and I took that as an opportunity to surprise you"
