Chapter 6
I had been in debriefing for more than an hour. I was sweating from the bright florescent lights overhead; I still hadn’t fully adjusted to the brightness. A person walked but behind me and untied my hands from the chair and told me to stand up. I stood up on wobbly legs and followed him out, we walled up a flight of steps, then through a sliding door emerging onto a top of a building.
“Patrick will be here in a couple of minutes to meet and evaluate your case.” He shot me a sympathetic look. There were still camera’s up here but when he passed by he whispered me a quick good luck. He had been one of the recruits later on in the process but somehow he has now succeeded me in rank. I bent down and ran my fingers of some initials carved into the soft wood bench.
“516.” I immediately straighten up. I turned to face him.
“Sir,..” I didn’t know how to continue since I might have lost my job.
“At rest.” I looked him in the eye and relaxed.
“Pat it was a mistake, I was trying to make more money for my host family..” he cut me off.
“That was not your assignment.” I shrunk the tiniest bit back at his harsh words. He was the only one I had ever really feared in some moments.
“I am sorry Sir.” I was ready for the infamous speech of how I have compromised the service and must be going. Instead I never expected to hear what was happening.
“Meghan… you are too important to this department. And I..II have missed yyyou.” His voice shook and I just stood there.
“Permission to speak sir?” He nodded and instead of speaking I forgot what I was going to say when I saw a tear roll down his check before he roughly pushed it away. His voiced changed.
“Agent 516. You are cleared to work again. I encourage getting some rest at your head quoters here before returning to your host family. This time you will be stay on task are we clear?”
I nodded. I was walking a past him and he slipped a piece of paper in the pocket of my jeans.
“Thank you sir.” I walked to the stairs and glanced back briefly to see him gazing over the side of the building. I fly down the stairs and see Zack at the bottom. I run up behind him and hug him.
“Megan!”
“Zack!”
One hour later
I had finished a quick nap when the door to my room burst open, and in front of me stood the person that I hadn’t seen in a year. She was completely different, she was taller only slightly, blonder, and stronger. My little “sister”.
