GREETING AGAIN:

in which a character tells something they've never told anyone before

~

I felt my knees buckle as I attempted to walk down the stairs, my cramps wrecking all of the plans I had.

That plan was working on the skit with Jory after school...

"Mom I don't think I can do anything..." I told my mom after she asked me to take out the garbage before school.

"Why not?" It wasn't really a question. She kind of just implied that there wasn't anything as important as helping her. I sighed and threw the blanket onto the ground, picking the garbage bag up and walking out, my eyes being blinded by the bright sun. I squinted and watched Jory zoom by on a motorcycle, wearing his full uniform as he rode to school.

I dropped the garbage into the bin, and walked back inside and washed my hands before I decided to eat. Joyce was in a deep conversation with my mom and I decided to leave them be. I ate my All Bran cereal with Ophelia on my lap when there was a knock at the door.

"I'll answer it," I told Joyce and my mom, knowing who it was. Ophelia climbed onto my shoulder and stayed there quietly.

I took a step back and realized that I was staring at Miles.

Miles was back from the military.

"Masie, you can't just leave like that!" Joyce yelled from her car as she followed me to school. I stomped angrily away from my house and ignored Joyce until she told me to watch out. I didn't understand what she was saying until I crashed into something-or someone-and fell to the ground, my nose bleeding. I looked up at who it was and stared at a pedestrian angrily as he quickly peddled away. I swore and got into Joyce's car, complaining about what happened.

"He looked at me and didn't say sorry," I snapped, stuffing tissues into my nostrils. "How rude can he get?" Joyce she turned her music up to fill the tension.

~

"Nice tissues," Darius joked. I rolled my eyes and fixed the bag on my back and continued walking to my locker, though things were a little blurry.

"Okay," Darius started. "Is something going on?" I unlocked my locker and put my books in, my eyes struggling to meet with Darius'. He huffed and opened the locker so that his side was pressing against the door.

"I'm not leaving until you talk," he stated. I bit the inside of my lip and puffed my cheeks.

"I don't want to talk," I mumbled, turning my back to him. "I sound funny..." Darius shook his head, spun me around and took my head into his hands.

"You know you're voice sounds perfect bleeding nose or not," he whispered. I took his large hands off of my face and smiled, but my heart was beating like crazy.

The more I spoke to Darius, the more I found myself starting to like him. I guess it's because we kissed. I still had to actually talk to him about it.

I looked at Darius as he blushed and laughed. He's so cute.

I heard someone clear their throat behind us and saw Wayne standing tall behind him. I felt my eyes widen and tried not to freeze up.

So much for that.

"Darius, can I talk to Masie?" Darius looked at me and then at Wayne. I watched an angry expression flash across his face before he nodded and walked off, looking back at us. I opened my mouth to ask Wayne what was the matter but he cut me off, leaning in close. Too close.
