JERK:

in which a character has to deliver a passionate speech on something he / she knows nothing about / in which a character stays home for family night

~

I scrambled for my things as Joyce's impatient honking blared every second and ran out the door to the grey sky and strong wind. It was going to rain.

"Finally," Joyce said annoyed. I playfully punched her arm and fixed my wet hair as we were going to school. I rubbed my puffy red eyes. I was a mess. How was I going to talk to Darius? How was I going to talk to Jory? Joyce stared at me worriedly.

"Are you ok?" I sighed and shook my head. I didn't tell her about yesterday. Joyce was so happy that her dad was home, I couldn't afford to dampen her mood.

I got out of the car and bumped into somebody.

"Oh, sorry," I said as I looked down. My eyes trailed up as I looked at Darius' blue eyes, who smiled happily. My heart dropped.

"Mornin' sunshine," Darius said with a wide grin. He made even a cloudy day sunny.

"Hi Darius," I replied, avoiding his gaze. He placed his hand on my chin and turned my face towards himself.

"Is everything ok?" He worried. I nodded slowly.

"Everything's fine," I lied, taking his hand off of my face. Joyce locked her car and she grabbed my arm, pulling me away from Darius who stood there, confused.

"What was that?" She asked me. I shook my head.

"I really don't know," I told her as we went to the cafeteria. I ate my breakfast as all of us spoke about random things, and for once I was actually paying attention.

I walked into English class after homeroom sluggishly. I was starting to worry about where I would sit. Would I sit beside Darius?

Or by myself?

I guess

I had to make things seem normal between us, but how could I with that big of a secret. I sighed and sat down beside Darius slowly.

"So today is a new day," Mrs. Assurd said happily. The class was silent as she initiated silent reading. I opened my book and stared blankly at the 250th page. Darius turned his head towards me and laughed, his lips brushing against my ear.

"You've been on the same page for over 10 minutes," he whispered.

"I can't read," I complained. He raised an eyebrow and looked at me intently.

"Are you sure you're ok? You've been acting so weird since yesterday... Did I do something-"

"No Darius, you didn't do anything wrong," I said with a loud sigh. But he did do something wrong. "It's just been a tough morning," I muttered as I continued staring at the same page.

Five minutes later Mrs. Assurd ended silent reading. I sighed happily and leaned back into my chair.

"So we have finished the movie," she said. The class broke into a loud conversation and she waited for us to quiet down. Mrs. Assurd wasn't young, but she wasn't old either. She was an average height with long brown hair and she always wore fitness clothes, because she was always working out, and because she is a P.E teacher too.

"And now we're turning our heads to public speaking," she said with a grin. My heart stopped. I hate public speaking.

I gulped and watched her grin widen.
