HAND TRICKS:

in which a character teaches another character aforementioned skill

~

"Good morning," I heard Miles say.

"Mornin,'" I said quickly while walking towards the fridge to pull out a chocolate chip muffin. I picked my backpack up quickly and opened my umbrella before I walking outside to the rain. I turned my head and saw Wayne, who was angrily entering his car as he zoomed out of his driveway. I turned my head and saw Anastasia standing there, a shocked expression on her face. She turned her head to look at me and turned away, suddenly sprinting to her car, quickly driving the opposite way. I sighed and waited for Joyce to come outside, but she was taking longer than expected. I looked through the kitchen window and saw her laughing with Miles and decided to walk to school.

I pulled my earphones out of my pocket and blasted I Stand Corrected by Vampire Weekend as I angrily walked my way to school. I kicked every large rock in sight, frustratedly reflecting on the past day and a half. I took my earphones off, heard honking and turned around, watching Darius wave his arm through the window. I felt a smile form on my face as I watched his car slowly move up towards me.

At least I had something to look forward to.

The door swung open and I got in slowly. There was an awkward tension in the car, a tension that was hard to avoid.

"Good morning," he said cheerfully.

"Morning,"

"How are you feeling?" I shrugged and tapped my finger quietly.

"Better,"

"But not good?" He asked. I nodded slowly with a loud sigh. I watched our hands touch and felt my heartbeat quickening. I waited for Darius to move in, but he didn't. My forehead was starting to moisten in the slightly cold car, and I could feel my feet clamming up.

But I couldn't move.

The loud music masked the heavy beating of my heart as Darius leaned in slightly, causing me to back up immediately. Darius leaned back and bit his lip, profanity spilling from his mouth. I watched his face change from anger to confusion, then I watched his scrunched up face relax, a smile forming on his face. I stared at him and forced a loud laugh. He smiled.

"I shouldn't have tried to kiss you... Again..."

"It's ok Darius," I said quietly. I didn't know what else I could say. I was as confused as he was. Darius Goodman already kissed me once, and he wanted to kiss me again.

I sighed and moved my hair from my face, waiting for him to say something.

"Masie," he started before stopping the car. I looked at him, watching his sea blue eyes contract. I bit my lip and continued to wait, watching his hand move towards mine one again.

"You know I-" he was cut off by knocking on his window. We both quickly turned our heads to look.

It was Wayne.

"Hey man," he said. "Hi Masie..." He trailed off.

"Morning man," Darius said.

"Hey," I said quickly. "I'll leave you two to talk," I told Darius, giving his hand a squeeze before unbuckling my seatbelt and opening the car door. I picked my bag up quickly and opened the car door, jogging towards the main doors. I walked sluggishly towards my locker, my eyes focusing on a poster on the wall beside Anastasia, who was talking to her friends Grace and Bree. Her eyes met mine and I quickly looked away. I opened my locker door and peeked my head over the door to see Anastasia angrily speaking to them about whatever, but she was looking right at me. My heart raced as I hid my face once again, fixing my messy untied hair. I struggled as I tried to take my hair tie off of my wrist with my teeth, feeling warm rough hands touch my wrist. I looked up and saw Darius taking the hair tie off of my wrist, tying my hair into a bun. I touched it lightly and smiled.
