Chapter 8

Our table was right by the window where we can see out into the streets filled with bright colorful lights Drista tried to push Clay out of the way. So that she could sit next to me but Clay quickly moved in front of her and pulled the chair out and sat down I smiled at their actions and sat down next to Clay the other side of me was the window I said across from clays mom and his little sister his dad sat at the end of the table The waitress came and took our drink orders

" so how is school going Maddie" clays mom asked

"It's good a lot of fun" I answered

Clay look at me confused knowing that was a lie but he didn't call me out on it instead he changed the subject

"So drista any plans for the summer?"

His little sister looked up from her phone and shrugged her shoulders

"Not really I guess we will see what happens" she said and looked back down at her phone

"Well we could always have a girls day"
I said

Her face lifted so quickly so much joy in her eyes

"Really I would love that" her face filled with the biggest smile

Clay looked at me and smiled

After a hour of talking and his mom asking me a bunch of questions which I didn't mind answering .his dad on his phone never looking up or engaging in the conversation I'm assuming he was working. the night slowly begin to wind down it was 8 PM and I was definitely feeling a little tired clay noticed me Yawn and looked over at his mom

"Well mom I definitely had fun but we should get heading back home get some sleep ya know"

"Well of course" she stood up and we begin to walk out of the restaurant

You could tell his little sister was tired she hugged us both and started walking to the car his dad gave him a handshake and me a smile and told us to have a good night and followed drista to the car his mother stayed back to say her goodbyes

" i'm glad I got to see you too don't be shy come over anytime you would like"

" of course mom I love you good night" he hugged his mom and she made her way to me giving me and hug and kiss on the cheek

" don't have too much fun good night kids" she smiles and starts to walk to the car

Clay grabs my hand and we walk to the car once we get in the car he lets out the biggest sigh

"I thought that was never going to end"

I laughed at how dramatic he was and look over at him

"Oh come on it wasn't that bad"

He looked at me "are you kidding if we were there for 10 more minutes she would have been planning our wedding"

"And 20 minutes our kids names" I say with a sarcastic voice

He looks over at me and laughed starting the car we started to make our way home
