After Declan's asthma attack, we kept a close eye on him. It was funny seeing him act so normal after that. He didn't seem to be bothered by our sudden interest in him. Not at all. He seemed to embrace it. If we were watching him, he'd suddenly turn to us and smile.
Elisa kept him close to her, so when she had to leave him alone, she suffered from what I call Mommy Stress Disorder. What usually happens is that the mommy has to leave her child for some reason and suddenly begins to worry. She leaves the babysitter 3 pages of instructions and then calls every ten minutes. I remember one time she had to go to the store and Declan was asleep, so I was left to watch over him. She called me when she was driving to the store. She called as she was looking for what she needed at the store. She called me as she was leaving the store.
Then came the day of the party. There was some party going on that was super important and the wives had to go too. Everyone was gonna go, except Andy. He and I were going to take care of the babies. How cool. Ruby, Saint Lazslo, and Declan all together in a room.
Elisa was doing her makeup as quickly as possible. Patrick was fixing his fedora and I was fixing Declan's little bit of hair. "Give Andy this list, okay? You know everything about Declan, he likes his 12 pm nap and if he gets fuzzy play Old McDonalds. Here's his bag with everything. Tell Andy that the list is a bunch of Dos and Don'ts for Declan," Elisa said. We were at Andy's house now. I nodded and unbuckled Declan for his car seat. I jumped off the car, grabbed Declan and his bag and waved.
Andy's house was a two story, plain white house. I knocked on the door and Andy opened the door. His beard was growing back and I could hear Elmo inside. "Hey Andy. Brought you another baby," I said, entering the house. In the cozy living room floor was Ruby and Saint. "Oh my God, babies," I said and instantly sat down with them. Ruby looked at me confused and Saint approached Declan, who was still in my hands. "Hello," I said in a small squeaky voice. I let Declan down, thankfully the floor was carpet unlike our house. Ruby crawled towards me and sat down right next to me. She looked at the TV in front of her that was playing Elmo.
"Ah," she said, pointing at the screen. I nodded and replied, "Yes, ah, it's a shoe." She gave me a look of amazement and looked back at the screen. The screen was showing a shoe and she looked at the screen, at her shoe, then back at screen. She pointed at her shoe, looked at me, and said, "Ah," urgently. I nodded again and said, "Ah." She then said something that sounded a little boot.
I turned back at Andy, who was standing behind the couch that was behind us. "If there is a heaven, it is this. It's just a whole bunch of cute babies." He laughed. "Oh yeah, Elisa wanted me to give you a list of instructions, " I searched for it in the bag and took out the list. Andy was holding two other lists.
"Like these?" He asked. I laughed.
"Omfg, really? They left instructions, too?"
"Yep. Pete wanted me to throw out the list and just let Saint do whatever. Joe, on the other hand, gave me the list and insisted on giving me a detailed speech on her food."
"I can't believe this."
I sat on the couch with Andy. We were discussing The Avengers, since we'd both watched it one time together. I argued that Thor was better, but he argued Iron Man was. Our argument was cut off when Ruby started crying. Andy looked bewildered at the child and pick her up. He bounced her a little as he swayed back and forth. He desperately tried to calm her, but to no avail. He looked at me desperately. I grabbed one of the list and tried to find something useful. Something caught my eye. Nap at 10 am. I looked at the time. 10:46 am. "I think it's time to put her down for her nap. Where are her things?"
Andy pointed to a corner where a three baby bags were neatly placed. I found a pink one and assumed it was Ruby's. Inside was an empty baby bottle and that powdered milk substance. I quickly made a bottle of milk for her and gave it to Andy for him to feed her. Andy went upstairs since the baby boys were making too much noise. They seemed to like each other.
