The months following the death of Ina and her funeral at the Kardia Cathedral resulted in a lot happening for the Fairy Tail guild. A few members asides from Gildarts had started to try and find info concerning Emily's father Bane so justice could be served for him killing Ina. While some of the members were out looking for Bane, Emily was doing her best to train to try and get strong for the day that she would get revenge against her father for what he had done. A father that she had come to disown at her mother's funeral since it became clear that he was just wanting to use her and Johan as weapons and nothing more. That their wellbeing and that their family meant nothing to him. A growl left her due to her anger and she punched the boulder in front of her with her right hand while it was covered in water. However she let out a sigh after seeing that she had only smashed a dent into it. She turned her attention away from the boulder when she heard footsteps coming towards her. Relaxing some when she saw that it was Laxus who had found her.
"So this is where you've been hiding?" Laxus asked as he walked over to her and then saw the boulder. "Nice dent."
"I wasn't really hiding. I just wanted to try and train but at the same time I tried to blow off steam and that was all that I could do." Emily answered as she went and sat down on a nearby log before looking down. "I'm pathetic. I keep trying to get stronger but I can't even get strong enough to destroy a rock. How am I supposed to protect my family from Bane if I can't even destroy a rock."
"Emily. That's not true." Laxus said as he walked over and stood in front of her before using his hand to make her look up at him. "Asides from Erza, you are one of the most powerful female mages in the guild. That itself is a serious achievement."
"But it's still not enough. What if Bane attacks you? Or the Thunder Legion? Or Makarov? I'm not strong enough to protect those who matter to me." Emily said as she turned her head to look away from him.
Laxus let out a sigh before he sat down next to her and pulled her close to him so her head was on his right shoulder. He felt her jump some from the sudden action he made but he then felt her relax against him which made him smile since it meant that he had at least gotten her to relax some. Emily had been taken by surprise when Laxus pulled her close but at the same time she was grateful for it since it allowed her to calm down out of the panic and worry she had been in. Especially since she had been struggling to calm herself down.
"You don't have to worry about any of us. We'll be fine. Our guild is one of the strongest in the kingdom. Anyone who messes with us will be beaten into the ground." Laxus stated as he rested his head against her head.
"I know. I keep forgetting because I worry so much. Especially about you and Makarov since you guys mean so much to me." Emily said as she shifted some against him before taking a deep breath. "But I know to have faith in you all. Even if the worst outcome possible scares me."
"Me and Gramps will be fine. And speaking of him we should probably head back to the guild before he gets worried about us." Laxus said, laughing some as he looked down at her.
"Yeah. I've been gone most of the day and I feel bad for making you all worry." Emily said sheepishly as she looked up at Laxus.
Laxus offered a gentle smile before standing up and holding out his hand to her. He wanted to do his best to keep his promise to her mother about keeping her safe since they were childhood friends and extremely close to each other. Plus he knew it would be easier for him to do so then anyone else in the guild due to how well he knew Emily. Emily returned his smile with one of her own as she placed her hand in his and he pulled her to her feet. She was truly grateful to have him as a friend since she wasn't as close to any of the younger members of the guild like she was with him. It made being herself easy. And it also made it easy to rely on someone to protect her. It made her happy.
