Charlie's POV:
i am in the Hunger Games. this is like the nightmares i had. i'm in the arena. all alone.
but i wont be alone, that's what's killing me. jane will be there, my big sister.
Jane and i get on the train to go to the capitol. she stares absentmindedly out of the window. i know exactly what she's thinking: " i have to protect him-no matter what". but i dont want her to do that. i know she's got the skills to survive.
i dont. i dont hunt or anything. sometimes me and jane trade tesserae grain or something at the hob, but that's it. jane doesnt hunt either, but she doesnt get as distracted as i do

Jane's POV:
how could this have happened? i always thought i'd be picked, not him. ( although i was picked too...)
i'm looking out the window on the train when he says something to me .
" i dont want you to" he says without turning around
" do what?" i say, still looking out the window
"sacrafice yourself to save me"
"but i will"
"no, you dont need to"
"and why is that?" i said, finally turning to him
"because if district 12 wins this year, it should be you"
"stop saying that!" i yelled "you're going to live. and it's going to have to be without me"
"why?"
"you've got your entire life ahead of you!"
"so do you!"
"i've lived long enough"
"you're only 3 years older than me"
"i know what i need to do"
"then dont worry about me- i can take care of myself"
"if i lived-" i said, nearly in tears " and you didnt - i couldnt live with myself. if you died i wouldnt have the will to live"
just then Haymitch an Effie walked in. Haymitch of course had a drink in his hand, and Effie had a cheesy smile on her face. or maybe its stuck that way, from capitol surgery?
"whats wronng with you?" asked Haymitch upon seeing me
"he's my brother"
"oh"
"you dont even remeber the reaping?"
"it's blurry- ok?" he said, pouring himself another drink.
