Chapter One: The girlfriend
"Bear, you sure no one's going to barge in?"
"No one will. Okay Micah? Even if anyone did we could always feint ignorance of course."
"Both of you shut the fuck up? I have to see the so called nudes Bear got sent."
"Could you both shut up?? Your virginity is leaking out of all your orifices!"
"So, Bear, where'd you meet this girl?"
"Same place as always my dear Loggs, Facebook."
All three boys shuffled about on top of Bear's bed, huddling together, quickly hovering over the phone clasped in Bear's hand as he unlocked it. He navigated his way through the apps, into his gallery and selected the folder titled sent before handing Loggs the phone. Loggs in turn accepted the phone in the palm of his hand as Bear confidently leaned back on the wall, crossing his legs and shrugging nonchalantly.
"It's not much but hey, it's something I guess." Bear proclaimed while Loggs and Micah gawked at the nude girl who had presented herself before them in a way. The sweet serenade of the piano playing in the background pulled them both in as the scrolled though the many images that were before them before Micah growled under his breath and leant back away from the phone. Loggs quickly mimicked Micah's actions while handing the phone back to Bear.
"I don't know why you would even dare Bear to do something you know we; he'll get done Loggs..." Micah mumbled as he pulled his phone out, quick to scroll through his playlist to change the sing playing.
"That's because this time, our dear Mexican Bear isn't the only lady killer around anymore," Loggs confidently announced while fishing for his phone from his back pocket, "Yours truly has a girlfriend as well."
Both Bear and Micah sat up almost in unison and gave all their attention to Loggs who was unlocking his phone, their combined interests clearly piqued but not quick to outright show that to the now overly cocky Loggs.
Bear snatched Loggs' phone away from him and nudges Micah who chuckles, taking quick glances between Loggs and his phone, stopping as he gets a good look at the girl supposedly the girlfriend to Loggs.
"Well colour me impressed Loggs my good man." Bear said happily as he went through the few images saved in a special folder, a heart used to name it, making it easy to distinguish from the rest of the folders. Micah shrugged as he scrutinized the images while Bear was going through them. "Part of me wants to call bullshit, but a bigger part of me has to congratulate you man, this girl's a definite catch as far as I'm concerned." Micah added on to what to Bear had said.
Loggs faked a humble expression as he took off his glasses, cleaning them with the fabric from his shirt. "I know it seems too out of place for me but hey, we all have our days." He said confidently, snatching his phone back away from the both of them.
"So is it serious or something?" Micah asked as he quickly skipped through his songs, his attention still fixated on Loggs, the same way Bear's was. "I wouldn't say so at all. It's only been a week-"
"Only been a week but that's a goddamn achievement as far as you're concerned Loggs." Bear said, cutting Loggs' sentence short, plunking his phone away from his hand to carry on semi-gawking at the girl. "You know she kind of reminds me of Perona in a way." "With the pink hair she's rocking and eyeliner! I totally see it dude." Micah jokingly added to Bear's remark.
Bear's eyes lit up as the phone rang, quickly answering in Loggs' stead.
"Hey numb nuts that's my-"Loggs irritably mumbled before being silenced by Bear's waving hand.
"Shush... One? What's the matter- Dog? Tree-" Bear sighs and shakes his head slightly as he hung up. "One's stuck up a tree being barked at by a dog or something." He announced as he manoeuvred off his bed, leaving both Loggs and Micah to sigh as they followed his lead.
"How does she manage to always get herself in situations like this?" Micah asked as he stretched out, following after the two in front of him as they all made their way downstairs. "Don't ask us, because we'll have to bail her out of it every single time and you know that well." Bear answered as he dialled One's number, placing the phone close to his ear, beginning to conversation with the clearly frantic sounding One trying his best to get information about her location whilst assuring her that she will be safe.
Micah quickened his pace, walking beside the two and begins to clear his throat, catching Loggs' attention."Speak your mind young grasshopper." Loggs responded as he took a glance at Micah. "I was already planning on that. So, this girl, does she have a name?" Micah asked with great curiosity flooding from his tone. "Her name's Daphne if you must know." "Interesting, truly interesting indeed...Where does this Daphne reside?"
Bear sighed as he cleared his voice out, quickly turning their collective attentions to Bear who was about to come to a halt at a stop sign as he finally hung the phone up, waving it in front of Loggs' face by which Loggs in swatted away. "Keep it on you Bear; Sherlock over here might get ideas." Loggs said as he flicked Micah's forehead.
"What're you on about?" Bear asked, slipping Loggs' phone into his back pocket while looking back at them. "Nothing in particular, just the fact that Loggs over here might the victim of a cat-fishing incident is Micah retorted as he stepped onto the cross walk, turning around and walking backwards to face them.
"And the asshole finally reveals himself..." Loggs said irritably as the all turned into an empty street, canopies of branches and leaves creating small pockets of light that danced over the road and the three boys. Loggs proceeded to pull out a box of Marlboro cigarettes, pulling out one for himself and another, which he handed to Bear. "I mean low blow from Micah that's a fact," Bear replied as he placed his cigarette in between his lips, "It's still a pretty fair question to ask. So just answer in and be over with it."
"Fine I'll answer your illogical question! Jesus, you guys never let anything be. No, she's not a cat-fish of any sort."
Micah shrugged, evidently letting go of the subject all together as both Loggs and Bear lit their cigarettes. Micah sighed and began picking his pace up gradually, turning back to the two behind him. "Hey Bear, where'd One say she was? I'll just go save her and get some points in for myself."
Bear let out a streams of smoke from his nose before gesturing with cigarette between fingers, "She's up the street on Mangrove avenue; some bulldog's got her scared shitless."
"Missus Langley's bulldog?" Micah snickered to himself as he progressed into a stride down the street, flickers of light cascading over him as he jogged against the gentle breeze that blew onto him, crossing a few streets and making his way down a few streets to find a small bulldog barking up a girl who was perched on the branch of a tree, gingerly swaying her legs, taking passing glances at the dog below.
"Micah! Took you long enough!" she yelled out irritably to Micah, who was herding the angry dog back into its yard before closing off its exits by latching the gate. "Just get down from the tree before I let the pooch out again. One hissed as she shimmied her way down the tree and playfully punched Micah's arm to which he let out giggle.
"How do you keep getting yourself into these situations?"
"Don't ask me, it's normally just a blur to me."
"Unsurprisingly...Oh yeah, some good news, Loggs got a girlfriend."
