I'm so not ready for this, she thought, but I am ready to get blackout drunk. She took out the flask full of vodka and downed half of it. This party better be worth it. She was back on the mountain, the scene of last year's terrible get-together, a night that they could never forget, the night the twins vanished.
Beth was a very good friend of hers, one might even consider her to be a best friend. The memory of Beth made her a bit sad, a little angry and extremely lonely. She had always been a bit of a lone wolf, not that anybody had noticed, her partying more than made up for that. Parties were her thing, her drug, her addiction. Everybody loved her at parties, she was a sight to behold.
Her drinking had gotten worse, a lot worse. Her mind wasn't right. Most of the time she was suffocating and drowning in her own head, her own brain was against her. The only thing that made her feel better was the taste of liquor. The more bitter it was, the better.
She arrived at the cable car station and saw Sam. She pasted a big fat smile on her face and slowly walked behind the unsuspecting girl, who was currently being nosy and going through Chris's phone. She screamed as loud as she could, terrifying the girl in the process and causing her to fall on her ass and drop the phone. Her booming laughter filled the mountains.
"Seriously?" Sam glared at her for 10 seconds then broke into a huge smile. She helped her up.
"Being nosy?" She smirked. "So what did you find?" She gave her a conspiring smile.
Sam lifted an eyebrow.
"Oh come on, sharing is caring".
"Being nosy as always". Chris appeared out of nowhere and quickly grabbed his phone from the padded snow. He was obviously displeased. "I guess privacy means nothing these days".
He walked away and she shrugged her shoulders.
"So, Sammy, how's life?" She tried to make conversation.
"Not too bad, it's going".
"Going is good, I guess. But you know what's better? Getting waasteddd!"
Sam laughed. "Ever the party girl".
"Hey guys, come take a look at this". Chris called out from the back. The two girls followed his voice, he was standing in front of a shooting range.
"Nice. Is that thing loaded?" She asked.
"Sure is". He replied.
"Well, that's kind of irresponsible, don't you think?" Sam said.
"Super-duper" "No doubt". They both agreed. "Doesn't make it any less fun though". A devilish smirk.
"No, it does not". Chris agreed with a smile on his face.

A few minutes later, the cable car arrived. She was itching to get to the lodge and get this party started. She was itching for the flask in her bag. She was itching for relief. She was getting a bit antsy.
"Everything ok?" Sam asked with worry on her face.
"Sure is, everything's peachy keen jelly bean". She tried to muster a reassuring smile but Sam wasn't 100 percent convinced.
"You know how Josh and I met, right?" Chris asked. It was the beginning of the butterfly effect.
~
They reached the lodge. Sam and Chris were caught in a conversation and she was left with her thoughts. Her obtrusive, self-destructive thoughts. They just wouldn't shut up. Sometimes, she split herself into different people, just to feel less alone, just to feel more understood. It was like her differing personalities understood her and when they were combined they made her, an unpredictable, impulsive party girl. A wildcard.
Ashley sat on the steps, in front of the door. Matt was brooding silently on the other side. Super-duper, this is going to be so much fun, she thought sarcastically. She allowed them to fight in her head, the different versions of her.
Chris and Ashley exchanged pleasantries; they were so damn awkward.
"What's up with him?" Sam asked Ashley.
"Mike and Em". Ashley said while shrugging her shoulders.
"Dramaaaa". Chris quipped.
"What's up party people!" Josh, yes, finally.
"JOSH!" She couldn't stop herself. He was her savior at this point. The girl was excited. She tackled him and laughed so loud. He wasn't shocked, he welcomed it. He hugged her fiercely and spun her around.
"Josh, please, we need to start this party before I start getting withdrawal symptoms". She all but begged.
He leaned in and whispered. "Well, nobody wants to see that". They both chuckled.
Josh liked parties, she liked parties. There was no doubt in her mind that they were going to party.
"Joshyyy, I got a little something something in my bag". She giggled like a school girl.
"I'm sure you do". He laughed.
She took out the flask and took two sips. He grabbed it from her hand and drained the rest. They both giggled now, a dirty little secret.
~
Chris took care of the frozen lock. They were now in the lodge, the dust-ridden, bone-chilling lodge. She made a beeline for the sleek, empty kitchen, looking for the liquor. She found four nice, big bottles of whisky stashed in one of the cabinets.
"Oh baby, oh baby". She kissed the bottle and left a red lipstick stain.
She made her way back to the living room.
"Fear not my miserable subordinates, you shan't be miserable for long. For I have secured our poison!" She lifted two bottles into the air, waiting for a round of applause. Mike and Jess were already present. Jess and Emily seemed to be in some sort of argument.
"Uhm, am I missing something?" Jess and Emily continued to argue while Chris appeared out of nowhere and grabbed one of the bottles.
"Thank god someone is still sane around here". She opened the bottle and clinked it with the one in Chris's hand. She took a huge sip and made her way to the couch. She fell backwards and gave half of her attention to the fight that was brewing. Mike was seated next to her; he raised an eyebrow.
"Nice to see you too again, Michael. Always a pleasure". She gave him a pleasant smile. She was starting to feel the effects of the whisky. Good.
He smiled at last. "Nice to see you too". His smile changed; he looked a bit sad. "It's been a while".
She chose to ignore the slight twinge of sadness in his eyes. "Michael, Michael, Michael, how is our favorite class president?"
"Uhh... Not too bad".
"Not too great either, by the looks of it". She pointed to the brewing cat fight.
He sighed. She offered him the bottle; he took a sip.
"STOP IT, this is not why we came up here". Josh yelled. "It's now what I wanted. If we can't get along for 10 minutes then we need a little bit of a break, right? Mike, why don't you check out the guest cabin, the one I told you about?"
Mike got up and grabbed Jess's hand. They were already headed for the door.
"Enjoy your sexy time!" She yelled.
Emily glared at her.
"What?" Geez, someone's got a 9-foot stick stuck up their constipated ass.
She sighed and sunk back into the comfortable couch with her bottle, it was now half empty.
