'looks up at the man that she turned down'

the girls had just finished watching the baby-sitters agency advertisement.

"need a sitter? i came up with that!" kristy groaned.

"those girls are definitely in high school, why don't they loiter at the mall like normal teenagers?" claudia asked. "no offence maisie."

"none taken." she smiled.

"no one's gonna wanna hire them instead of us, right?" mary anne smiled. "stacey?"

"no, definitely not." stacey replied, although she didn't sound very confident in her answer.

"madam secretary, will you please read our upcoming jobs?" kristy asked.

"stacey is sitting for charlotte johanssen thursday, claudia is with the three youngest pikes, i'm with the marshalls saturday and sunday, maisie's sitting for penelope brown thursday, plus the newton's baby is on its way any minute!" mary anne listed.

the girls all gushed over how excited they were.

kristy cleared her throat loudly to get everybody's attention.

"kim said last month that she's really gonna rely on the club to watch jamie in the early days." mary anne explained.

"so then we're thriving. the baby-sitters agency doesn't stand a chance." kristy smirked. "it's just proof of our success. they're trying to get a piece of our action, so we need to differentiate ourselves from the competition."

they all sat in silence for a moment, until kristy had a clear revelation.

"kid kits." she suddenly said, standing up.

everybody stared at her with completely blank faces.

"oh kristy what's a kid kit?" kristy mocked in a high voice. "well i'm so glad you asked."

"mary anne, why do i love going over to your house so much?" kristy asked.

"because it doesn't smell like a teenage boy?" mary anne replied.

stacey, claudia and maisie giggled at this.

"fair, but no." kristy smiled. "because your dad has every board game known to man." she explained, while piling things into a shoe box.

"and, stacey.. well, actually, i've never been inside your house before." she grimaced. "but i'm sure you've got loads of great stuff."

"i really can't wait to have all you guys over. my mom just wanted to finish the, uh.. the bathroom renovations first." stacey explained.

"i've also never been to your house maisie, but i'm sure it's great too." kristy said, still on a tangent.

"yeah sorry about that, my dad hates having people over." she lied.

truthfully, she would've been embarrassed if they saw the kitchen cabinet stacked with beer or the empty bottles littering the living room. or her father.m
