Y/N smiled to herself as Fenris walked by with Marian Hawke, tucking her hair behind her pointed ears. "Dah'len, please, stop making eyes at the Champion." Her mother scolded her jokingly, well aware of her daughter's crush on the elven man with the strange tattoos. "But she is so beautiful mother." The younger elf said sarcastically, rolling her eyes. "I must head to the Master's house to clean now though." she sighed. She hugged her mother goodbye and set off towards Hightown.

"You're late." the Master greeted her with crossed arms, showing his disatisfaction. "This is the third time this week."

"Apologies, it is a long way from my home to get here. I'll be faster next time." The elf girl said, looking down at her feet.

"You have to stay overtime to make up for your lateness. But how was your walk here? Did anyone give you any grief?"

"Only the usual remarks I get ser. Nothing I can't handle, I'll let you know if anything bad happens." Y/N smiled. "I'll get to work."

A number of hours later with her pay in hand, Y/N waved goodbye to her Master and started her journey back to the alienage. She felt a slight tinge of fear as she walked through the dark streets, knowing full well what went on in during the night. She mentally scolded herself for not accepting the Master's offer of an escort home, and for leaving her trusty dagger sitting on her bedside table. The elf pulled her cloak tightly around herself and put the hood up, hoping that if she met anyone they would leave her, thinking she was trouble.

"Hey, you, come here!" A slightly drunken voice came from the side of her. She turned slowly and upon seeing the very drunk man holding a dagger, tried to run in the opposite direction. Y/N hid in an alley behind some old barrels and waited until she assumed it was safe and, breathing a sigh of relief, continued her walk home.

Suddenly, strong arms were wrapped around her and she let out a scream, her hood falling off her head. She kicked behind her, winding her captor, making him drop her. She noticed that this was the same man from before, and he'd dropped his dagger.

"You bitch!" The man sneered, reaching for his dagger. Y/N made a quick decision right there and then, she kicked him in the face and grabbed his dagger, holding it in front of her in defense.

"Now, now. Give us the dagger you stupid knife ear. You don't even know how to use it dearie." He laughed, getting up and wiping some blood from his nose. Y/N cocked her head and laughed.

"Why would you think that?" She grinned, holding the dagger in an attacking position. "Because I'm an elf? Because I'm a woman? Well you're wrong. My mother tried to raise a lady, but daddy won. He raised a girl who doesn't take shit from no man." And with that she stabbed him, frenzied stabs that didn't end even when she knew he was dead.

"Stop." A deep voice called from behind her, surprising not angry that she'd just murdered a human. She slowly stood up and turned, her heart stopping when she saw that Fenris was leaning against the wall, his arms crossed and his face unreadable.

"You're quite skilled with that dagger," he stated, nodding his head over to the dead man. "A bit of overkill though."

"He was going to hurt me." The smaller elf said simply, looking him right in the eyes. "I stopped him."

"What's your name?" Fenris asked, walking towards her. He slowly circled around her, studying every feature of her.

"Y/N" the elf said, keeping her eyes on the blonde.

"That's a beautiful name, it suits you." He smiled. Even though it only lasted a few seconds, Y/N was mesmorised by his smile, it made butterflies well up in her stomach.

"I have to go home now." She said stupidly, feeling a blush tinge her cheeks. She began walking in the opposite direction of Fenris, mentally kicking herself for not talking with him properly. She jumped at the feeling of a hand on her shoulder.

"Wait, I'll escort you. We don't want another incident, do we?" Fenris said, looking down at her. She nodded and together they walked to Y/N's home in the alienage.

"Thank you Fenris," Y/N smiled, tucking her hair behind her ear shyly. "I'll see you around?"

"Anytime Y/N," The taller elf said. "Be safe."

Y/N entered her home and laid in her bed, thinking over the events of the day. She'd murdered a man and talked to Fenris all in one day.

Over the course of a few months, Y/N found herself getting closer to Fenris, close enough to call him a friend. She figured that with the chaos that had been happening lately, he'd enjoy a visit. Placing her favourite book on the stair railing, she turned to the elf's door and lightly knocked three times.

"Y/N?" His deep voice called from the other side of the door, making butterflies rise in her stomach. The door opened and Fenris gave her his usual half smile.

"I bought a book for you, I know Marian was teaching you how to read and I thought you'd enjoy it as much as I did." She smiled, picking up her slightly worn book from the railing. Fenris stared at her for a moment and before she knew it, had pulled her into his embrace. The elven girl flushed pink and pulled away stupidly, looking down at her toes.

"I'm sorry," Fenris mumbled, looking into her eyes.

"Don't apologise." Y/N smiled, taking his hand in hers. She leant up and kissed his cheek lightly.

"Enjoy the book." She smiled, taking her leave. Fenris just stared after her in shock. He was definitely going to kiss her properly next time.
