Sten knew the warden was intrigued by him, it was hard not to notice. From the moment she freed him from the cage she was constantly stealing glances at him when she could. At first it seemed like curiousity, but over time he knew it was something more.
A woman had no place in the battlefield, at least that was what he had thought. Watching the warden fight had proved him wrong on this. She wasn't just a warrior on the battlefield, she was a dancer, swiftly dodging attacks, slashing at her enemy's weak point before going in for the final blow. She had no fear, it was quite breathtaking to watch. The way she slayed the Archdemon, throwing herself forward with her sword to deliver the final blow, it was mesmerizing. She was mesmerizing and despite trying to keep it push it deep inside him, he wanted her.
That was the predicament he found himself in now. She was in the castle's small garden, hunched over in front of a large willow tree, as though trying to hide in it's long flowing branches. To a bypasser it would look like she was praying, but he could recognise from the way she moved that she was sobbing. That was how it always was, every village they passed she would disappear to mourn her family, it made sense that on the day of her great victory she would do the same. The urge to comfort her was overwhelming, but it would be no use. It wasn't fair for her to think they could have a chance. Even if she wanted to be with a monster, forgive him for the things he'd done, they were being pulled in different directions. She was the Hero of Fereldan now, and the Qun was calling him home, the Blight was over and their time must come to an end. He turned to give her one last look, only to find her standing and making her way over to him, wiping her eyes.
"Perra, come. Sten almost left without us." The warden called. The dog barked happily as she bounded over, licking Sten's hand.
"What are you talking about?" He asked, confused. There was no talk of her coming with him, he was considering asking her but decided against it, surely she would like to stay with her brother since they have their home back, she hadn't seen him in years.
"I want to leave this place, there isn't anything here for me anymore, Fergus can barely look at me, not that I blame him. I always was the spitting image of our mother." She trailed off sadly, reaching out to rub Perra's ears. "But I want to go adventure, visit other lands, so why not start with your homeland?" She gave him a small, shy smile and he could feel his heart quickening, she was so beautiful.
"I would like that. Very much." He said quickly, a little too quickly, he hoped she didn't notice how eager he sounded. She gave him a strange look before smiling bigger now, a proper smile. "I'll go gather my things, I'll meet you at the docks!" She called over her shoulder as she jogged out of sight, Perra bounding after her. As she disappeared out of sight, Sten couldn't stop the smile from coming across his face, as he headed out of the castle he couldn't help but think about how happy she seemed to be coming with him, maybe they had a chance after all.
