Why this story?

I wrote this story to practice Dan Harmon's story circle. I am an aspiring author and hope you enjoyed this (much needed) fanfiction of my favorite video game series, Splatoon 2! I plan on publishing more original work in the future. Please critique this story as much as you want as it was made for practice on storytelling. It's my dream to write stories that others can relate to and enjoy.

Modern-day fanfics don't cut it for me.

Most things on Wattpad are not in third person. First person can be done right, but it takes an extreme amount of skill to pull off. Third person is usually best, where the "camera" can move on to whichever characters it sees fit. I noticed the problem of most fanfictions lacking imaginative qualities. It reads like a teenager's diary of hopes that cutie Jimmy from class would look her way. I hope to change that and bring forth new writers with big imaginations to the fanfiction world. Don't be discouraged! Continue on writing, even if it's about cute Jimmy. :)

Warning: below contains spoilers

In this story, Putz12's inksona goes through a change. The character is a character who exists in my head and is not representative of who he's based on. If it's one thing he can take from this story, it's that doing things alone isn't the way to go. I didn't initially make the character capable of apologies, accountability and responsibility, yet as we progress through the story, he becomes more susceptible to change. This story was created for two reasons: One was to practice my writing skills and to use the story circle and see where it would get me. This is the first full-length novel I have released and was ever okay with, despite it being a fanfiction. I'm not as well-read as I'd like to be but I did a lot of reading and online creative writing courses during the creation of the novel. The other was the need for a fanfiction based on the absurd. I'd seen many people in Splatoon chats talk about an alleged fanfiction that had not existed, so I bit the bullet and made one to fill that need. I had this idea in my head: A narcissistic arrogant boy, an underground world the octolings lived in, but what would it be like pre-octo expansion? I'm aware that they die when they touch water in-game, but I don't believe any organism can exist without water. I do know they also do not have bones, but for story's sake, and, considering their structure and this is fan-made, don't expect it to be full accuracy anyway. Splatoon 2 means a lot to me, and the day I got it my life was a little brighter. It's the cherry on top to my days, and I cherish the characters I made as well as the ones in the game. I felt, through writing this, that a story needed to be told about giving the 'bad guy' a chance. In the surface world the inklings, do not respect him. And well-deserved, he (the character) is an arrogant squithead. I had this idea in my head that a character could change him by being the only one who sees him differently. Even after she found out he lied, she was upset at first but forgave him. Iza sees inside the person and that there is a reason for his behavior. He's angry and rude as shell to her, but in her head she's wondering why. She'd never seen anyone else outside of the underground before and it was a different world. Most people do not question the motives of others, and only label them "bad" or "good." We can only speculate, but should never assume. Notice in the story he often brags about his 'celebrity' status (while forgetting to mention the infamy). This is because Inkling finds no other way to be 'worthwhile' other than that, aggro sports "star" he is. And that's the beauty of fiction. We can mold it into what we want, or more accurately, what represents our core beliefs.

I hope you enjoyed this story and even if you didn't, that you give me some critique I took a character and brought him into my little writing world, and aimed for entertainment beyond what we see today.
