"HYAA!"

Kraken's sword clashed with Swellow's as she blocked the Seawing's fierce attack. Kraken kept swinging wide and broad at the purple dragon who simply blocked all of her attacks, taking a defensive approach. Trying to end the fight before she gives Swellow an opening, Kraken went for a heavy overhead swing but Swellow swiftly dashed out of the way, dodging the attack and firing off a stream of silk at Krakens back left leg. She pulled, knocking the wind out of Kraken as she fell hard onto her side.

"Ow," Kraken groaned, feeling the pain of the fall. She lifted her head slowly to meet her defeater's eyes.

"Not bad," Swellow mused, holding out a talon to Kraken.

"Not bad. You kicked my ass, I couldn't land a single hit on you." Kraken held onto her warm palm as she hoisted herself up.

"Hah! Well, they don't call me the best Swordress around for nothing. That's kinda expected," Swellow said. "You're getting better, though. You managed to hold your own against me and didn't give me an opening until you tried that overhead swing. Blockhead move, by the way."

"Thanks," Kraken said sarcastically, but with a boost of confidence. She always felt warm when Swellow complimented her. She gave a small smile to the swordstress.

Team Jade had been searching for the next obelisk for the last two weeks and Archipelago had predicted that they were getting close. The focusing stone was slowly glowing brighter with each passing day.

Qibli was more than a bit nervous about letting the group go after the stone, especially with the threat of the Order looming above them as well, but he begrudgingly agreed when Essence reminded him of his adventures with the original Jade winglet against Darkstalker. "Besides," she had said, "most of you were younger than us anyways."

"Dinner's ready!" Ace yelled from another room, snapping Kraken back to reality.

"Let's get going before Scorpion and Tundra eat everything," Swellow said, turning toward the exit.

"Yeah, I'm starving," Kraken responded, her stomach rumbling as if in agreement. She followed suit.

The group had set up camp on the side of a mountain. The area was decently flat and perfect to set up camp. Ace had cooked some mountain goats that Kraken hunted early that day. Cooked food wasn't normally on a Seawing's diet, but Ace's cooked meat was some of the best food Kraken had ever had, even better than the food at the royal palace. And unlike life at the palace Kraken was actually having fun. Even with the fate of the world in their hands and a secret society after them Kraken was enjoying her adventure. She was seeing the world and making friends, things she had always wanted to do. Despite being together for only a couple of months, Kraken felt closer to team Jade than she had with anyone. Especially Swellow. Whenever Kraken was around her she just felt better and happier. She wanted to be near her more. Swellow was just the greatest dragon she had ever met, brave, fearless, charming, witty and a total badass.

As the sun set and the 3 moons rose the group started to unwind. Scorpion was doing target practice with Tundra, and winning, Ace was reading a scroll and checking his stock of medical supplies, Archipelago was scribbling something in his journal, Swellow was swinging her sword around practicing her moves against an invisible enemy, and Essence was writing in a scroll recording her visions. Everyone was occupied, and now was the perfect time.

"Hey Essence, do you have a minute?"

The Nightwing-Sandwing looked up from her work at Kraken. She wrote in straight, methodical lines. "Yeah, is there something you need?"

"Um. Can we talk in private?" Kraken asked, shuffling her feet. She suddenly felt uneasy and walked away from camp toward a cliff overlooking the ocean.

"Umm sure," Essence replied to nobody, watching the Seawing stalking away. She wiped her claws off on a rag and bottled up her ink before following her.

"So what did you want to tell me?" Essence asked as she sat down next to Kraken. She was agitated, fidgeting and looking at the ground. It was silent for a while.

"You promise not to tell anyone?" Kraken whispered suddenly.

"I won't tell anyone" Essence confirmed.

"You promise?"

"I promise I won't tell anyone."

"Alright," Kraken said, breathing in. She whooshed out her next words in one breath. "I have a crush on Swellow."

"WHAT!" Essence exclaimed, slack-jawed."Are you serious!?"

"Yeah I'm serious," Kraken muttered, giving her a worried side glance.

"Don't worry Kraken, I'm not against it or anything," Essence reassured quickly. "I'm just wondering why you're telling me."

"I have no idea how to tell Swellow how I feel, or if I should even tell her how I feel, what if she just sees me as a friend or if telling her how I feel ends up ruining our friendship or she starts hating me and everyone starts hating me or-" Kraken sucked in a deep breath. "-what if she's not into girls."

"Yeah, get that. Well, not the last part, I mean," Essence responded calmly

"So what- how should I tell her?" Kraken asked.

"Hey, don't ask me. I feel like I fell ass backwards into my relationship with Scorpion." Essence gave a quick laugh, looking through the bush toward the campfire. She could faintly hear the golden dragon's jubilant cheer, no doubt having won a bet against Tundra. "Just dont do anything crazy or stupid, just tell her how you feel when you're ready."

"Also... do you know if she's into me?" Kraken looked down at the water. "You're like a sister to her, so has she said anything about me?"

"She talks a lot about you but I can't tell if it's completely platonic or not," Essence replied, "and before you ask, no I don't read her mind."

"It's fine, I understand," Kraken said, not looking up.

"Alright. Sorry if I didn't give the answers you wanted," Essence yawned, stretching like a cat. "Anyways it's getting late, I'll be heading off to bed." She started padding back to the others, but when she looked back over her shoulder the Seawing hadn't moved from her original position.

"It's fine."
