"I'm Wilfred Mott!" Wilfred frowns, leaning back in his chair in confusion. "No... People have waited hundreds of years to find me and you manage it in a couple of hours." The Doctor quietly says, arms folded in his chair. "Well, just lucky I suppose." Wilfred shrugged lightly.

"No, we keep on meeting, Wilf. Over and over again like something's still connecting us." The Doctor's eyebrows furrow as he looks to Wilfred, thinking long and hard. I smile lightly at The Doctors nickname for him.

I was twiddling my thumbs, occasionally lifting my head to gaze outside or at the table. These past years I have been shy, even to those I know. Like Wilfred. Of course, I do not get shy when I'm near The Doctor or anything, seeing as he's my family. Like that older brother that likes to pretend you're not there but secretly has his eye on you the whole time. Quite annoying, sometimes. Gotta love him, though.

"W-Well, what's so important about me?" Wilfred nervously asked as I straighten myself. "Exactly. Why you?" I lightly comment as the three of us absorb into silence, life happening all around us. The women from earlier walked over and set two teas down. "Thank you." I say to her, smiling politely to her. "No problem." She said, eyes flickering to The Doctor for a few seconds before walking off again. I sigh and nudge The Doctor. "You could of said thank you."

"Thank you." He mumbles as I laugh. "Not to me." I scold before facing Wilfred again. We were silently once more as I hesitantly raised the cup to my lips, taking a small sip of the boiling tea. "I'm going to die." The Doctor said suddenly, making me choke and spit out the tea. I look at The Doctor in annoyance but smile gratefully when Wilfred passed some tissues. "Well so am I one day." Wilfred retorted as I look to him.

"Don't you- Don't you dare." I lowly said, cleaning any mess I left away. "Okay, I'll try not to then!" Wilfred grinned at the both of us, chuckling before his smile whipped off his face. "But I was told. 'he will knock four times'." The Doctor took a shaky breath in, making me look over and take his hand. "That was a prophecy. Knock four times and then..." The Doctor trailed off as Wilfred frowned at him. "Yeah but like I thought when I saw you before, you said your people could change, like, your whole body."

"I can still die."

My hand tightened around his. We had already talked about this before, his death. I knew it was coming, and he did to. Whether he wanted it to or not, it seems. Where would my life go? I'm only accustomed to one; The Doctor's.

"If I'm killed before regeneration then I'm dead. Even then... Even if I change it feels like dying." The Doctor said quietly as his and Wilfred's eyes watered. I had no more tears left to give, all which were used back in the TARDIS, mourning over The Master and The Doctor's soon-to-be death. "Everything I am dies. Some new man goes sauntering away..." He paused lightly, swallowing heavily, "...And I'm dead."

Wilfred was nodding lightly, before his eyes widened and he straightened himself, looking out the window. "What?" The Doctor asked, following his gaze making me turn in instinct. There, outside and in the middle of the street was Donna Noble. Her usual red hair flowed in the wind as she fiddled around with keys to what I presumed belonged to the car beside her. "I'm sorry but I had to." Wilfred desperately said as I turned to face him again. "Can't you make her better?"

"Wilfred... Please." I frowned at him as The Doctor whipped his head to face Wilfred. "No, you're both so clever can't you bring her memory back? Just go to her now, go on, just run across the street, go up and say hello!" Wilfred pointed to Donna as The Doctor shook his head violently. "If she ever remembers me her mind will burn and she will die." He stated stonily as we went back to looking at her.

"Don't you touch this car!" I heard her say sassily to a traffic warden, making me chuckle. Same old Donna Noble. Besides... Her not being here, sitting with us. Looking down to the table I lifted the tea, (Which was now cold) and gulped it all. I'm not very ladylike, if you've noticed. "She's not changed." The Doctor laughed as Wilfred too chuckled. "Nah." He said, as a man appeared with Donna. "Ah, there he is."

"Shaun Temple. They're engaged. Getting married in the spring." Wilfred tells us. "Another wedding?" I comment as he nods to me. "Yeah." He said before I thought of something. "Hold on, she's not going to be called Noble-Temple?" I asked as The Doctor joins in. "Sounds like a tourist spot." He mumbled to himself as I snort. "No, it's Temple-Noble." Wilfred says, amused. "Right."

"Is she happy? Is he nice?" The Doctor bombarded Wilfred with questions as he nodded. "Yeah, he's sweet enough, he's a bit of a dreamer. Mind you, he's on minimum wage, she's earning tuppence, so all they can afford is a tiny little flat." Wilfred looked out the window to Donna again. "And then sometimes I see this look on her face, like she's so sad. But she can't remember why."

"She's got him." I say lightly. "She's making do." Wilfred looked to me for a while. "Aren't we all?" I smile slightly, only half my mouth raised. "Yeah, Kayla, how about you? Who've you got?" Wilfred asked as I looked to the ground. "No-one." I grimace as I felt their stares. "I've never..." I cough slightly, refusing to tear up. "But- I can't- It's been so long-" I stuttered, my voice going highpitched as I breathed in deeply and wiped my face.

"Merry Christmas." The Doctor breathed as I laughed through my feelings. "Merry Christmas!" I breathlessly say. "Yeah, and so on!" Wilfred grinned through his own shining tears. We all chuckled. "Look at us." The Doctor smiled, looking at Wilfred and I. "Look, see? You need her, Kayla, Doctor, wouldn't she make you both laugh again?" Wilfred said, watching as Donna's car drove off with her fiancé, Shaun.

I sigh, looking to The Doctor's grief-stricken face. He has been through so much, lived so many times and seen so much death... Immortal life seems wonderful but I could never be a Time-Lord. So many people would die around me while I simply would start a new life. I respect The Doctor becuase of that. He is my hero of sorts. Even though I should not make out people to be heroes. He is to me.

Scraping back from his chair, (And his long cold cup of tea) The Doctor nodded to Wilfred and looked to me. I knew that look. Nodding my head as well, I stand from my seat and smiled at Wilfred. "It's been good to see you again, Wilfred. To many days on." I say to him as The Doctor stands by the door of the cafe. Wilfred smiled shakily at me, for he was still calming his emotions and hugged me lightly.

"I'm only an old man, eh? Better make the next visit sooner than later." He said as my smile wavered. "We will see each other much sooner than you think." I softly say, kissing him on the cheek before heading after The Doctor, whom was quickly leaving me in the dust.

"And so it came to pass that the players took their final places, making ready the events that were to come.

The madman sat in his empire of dust and ashes, little knowing of the glory he would achieve.

While his savior tenderly looked upon the wilderness, in the hope of changing his inevitable fate.

Far away, the idiots and fools dreamt of a shining new future. A future now doomed to never happen.

As Earth rolled onwards to night, the people of that world did sleep, and shiver, somehow knowing that dawn would bring only one thing...

The final day."
