For the next two days, Kai was busy teaching Ryder to hunt and fight and also busy trying to get enough food for breakfast and dinner. One night, a cold night, Kai continued to keep the fire prepped while he made Jay sleep with Ryder in their room. Kai decided to sleep out in the living room. Ryder sat up and looked at Jay who was sleeping soft and soundly. He leaned over to the edge of the bed and set three blankets on top of Jay then tiptoed into the living room. Kai was half asleep. He was sitting on the ground leaning against the couch and with his legs belt up against his chest. Ryder walked over to him swiftly and sat next to him. He laid his legs flat on the ground and stared at the fire. "It's cold in here Kai." Ryder said quietly so no one would wake up. Kai nodded his head tiredly then turned towards Ryder slowly. Ryder looked at Kai and smiled. He reached up onto the couch and grabbed an extra blanket. He unfolded it a d put it over Kai. "Don't wanna get sick again right?" Ryder said. Kai smiled and nodded slowly. He looked down at the blanket and pulled some of it off himself and set the rest on Ryder so he'd be warm too. Ryder smiled nicely and stared at the fire. After a few minutes, Ryder leaned his head on Kai's shoulder. Kai looked, from the corner of his eyes, at Ryder and then closed his eyes slowly.
And just like that, it was morning. Ryder woke up to being picked up. He opened his eyes slowly and looked at Kai. Kai was carrying him to his and Jay's bed. He laid him down next to Jay and covered him up with blankets. Ryder's eyes didn't stay open for long unfortunately. His eyelids grew heavy and closed. He fell asleep while Kai tucked him in with Jay. Then he walked out into the snow and started getting firewood. Two hours later, it was 7:00 a.m. Ryder opened his eyes to see Jay staring at him. Ryder sat up quickly and looked at the small rays of sun peeking through the window. Jay smiled. "Yay, you're awake!" Jay said happily. Ryder looked down at Jay. "Where's Kai?" Ryder asked. Jay put his hand on his chin to think like a grown up. "He's outside." Jay said. Ryder stood up and put his shoes on. He walked outside, instantly regretting it. He was seeing a dark grey t-shirt and it was cold enough outside to make the snow turn to ice quickly. He walked over to Kai. Kai was sitting on a chair that was outside next to the house. He was staring at the ground. "K-Kai?" Ryder said shivering. Kai blinked a few times then looked up at Ryder. "Ryder, it's freezing out here." Kai said as he stood up and took off one of his two jackets. He put the one around Ryder. Ryder slide his arms into the jacket sleeves. Kai looked away and stared at the snow. Ryder looked down at where Kai was staring at. In the snow, he could see a small drawing. Kai sat back down and stared at it. Ryder got closer and knelt down next to the drawing. "Is this a map?" Ryder asked curiously, examining the drawing. Kai nodded. "It's a map of the Dragon and Demon borders." Kai said. Ryder's ears twitched. Kai pointed at the map.

"Im leaving soon to go find an opening to get into the demon realm." Kai said. Ryder stood up quickly and looked at Kai quickly. "B-but—" Ryder started to say then looked away quickly. His ears went down slowly and he trembled. Kai looked at Ryder. "What is it Ryder?" Kai asked. Ryder's ears twitched as they slouched down on his hair. "It's impossible-" Ryder mumbled. Kai stood up quickly and crossed his arms. "Why's that?" Kai asked strictly. Ryder stared at the map and knelt back down and pointed at the boarder. "No matter where you go, there are at least 5 guards lined up against the boarder each mile." Ryder said slowly. Kai calmed down and looked at the map. "Ryder, you know they'll find us eventually and once that happens, we ain't just gonna be let off the hook this time." Kai said. Ryder looked up from the ground and nodded slowly. Kai looked up at Ryder and closed his eyes. "Let's go inside now." Kai said slowly. Ryder nodded. Kai walked inside with Ryder following close behind.
