SCARLETT
Finally, I'm just halfway to the airport, halfway to a life free of unwanted feelings.
I just can't believe my friends also helped him hoodwink me.
What were they thinking, all that would make me forget the past?
I just couldn't. I could neither forget nor forgive him after that day.
The two persons I used to love the most in my life and Aaron and Grace. They both shot me years ago, right where it hurts the most. Both made me feel as if my life had been nothing but a lane floored with rose petals.
Now that I know Grace's truth, I can forget what happened between us, but for Aaron, it would be harder.
Only I know the sacrifices I've made and my self-respect denies to allow forgetting his harsh words.
I took a sharp turn when my phone started ringing. I don't remember giving Amy my spare number?
I didn't pick, rather continued driving. After five more calls, I received a voice message from her. I don't know why but I tapped it open.
"Lett, Aaron met with an accident while going after you. Please come back."
Accident?!
No... no no no. I can't fall week. I should not care. I don't care!
Accident... going after you...
Ugh her words are ringing like a curse in my head.
I hit the breaks and banged the steering wheel in frustration. Eventually, a lone tear escaped my eye.
Yes, I might hate him, but I want him no harm because of me.
I immediately reversed the car and furiously started back towards the resort. Will my Aaron be okay?
My? Ugh... he's not mine. Is it okay? Is it okay to care about him? Fine! I just have to forget it till he's good. I need to. Then I can leave peacefully at least.
My heart felt numb. The anger I felt inside me for years was nothing compared to the fear of losing him.
I reached the resort and strode off to the reception, to find Amy standing there.
"Thank God Lett you are back." She hugged me.
"Is he okay? Where's he?", I asked.
She blinked twice as if at a loss of words and said, "H-He's in his room."
"What? Why not in hospital?"
"He said, he won't go anywhere until he sees you. C-Come with me." She escorted me to his room.
There inside stood others including Jacob and Riley. It's not the right time for a reunion or rather to curse them for telling him the truth. Seeing me, all left the room.
He was sitting shirtless at a corner of the bed with his feet resting on the tiled floor. A gauze was wrapped around his shoulder and a bandage stuck on his head.
Next to bed, on the side away from me was kept the nightstand with necessities and some cash. On the side where he sat was an opened big glass window, through which the cool breeze entered into the room.
His gaze was on me since the moment I entered in. His face had an expression as soft and gentle as the first time I saw him. I rushed to him and clutched him tightly. He wrapped his good arm around my torso.
I can't control my happiness seeing he's fine. I might hate him, but seeing the one you once loved die is more hellish than hell itself.
To hold the tide surging inside me, I clenched my fists. But the old flood like Lett wasn't ready for any confinement and the next moment I know, my lips were onto his, tasting victory after blue funk.
