The weekend had finally arrived and I was so ready to shut out any thoughts of school and just hang out with my friends. The five of us—Yeonjun, Beomgyu, Taehyun, Kai, and me—had all planned to have a movie night together and I was beyond excited.
I left the house around 6 PM and started walking towards Kai's house since we agreed to have it there. We did movie nights often and always rotated through each others' houses.
I had my hands shoved in my pockets, earbuds in my ears playing random songs as I walked, softly humming along to them. I was pretty cheerful, eager to have a good time with my best friends, advancing the streets with somewhat of a pep in my step.
But then I heard loud voices. They were so loud, I could hear them clearly even over the music playing. I paused the song, perking my ears to see if I could catch what was going on.
"You stupid bitch!" I heard a man's voice shout. I couldn't tell where it was coming from, but I knew he was inside one of the nearby houses. "You good for nothing scumbag! All you do is fucking laze around all day and you can't even get your fucking act together! You fucking scoundrel! You're the worst thing that happened here, you bitch! You should've never been born! Bitch, don't you dare fucking cry!"
I heard some shuffles and sharp noises and sniffles in between his words and I was terrified and concerned. I had no idea what was going on, but whatever it was, it couldn't have been good.
"Soobin, why are you just standing there?" I heard Kai's voice ask and I turned around to see him outside his door, just across the street.
I looked around, waiting for the voice and noises to return, but they never did. They just stopped, almost as if I'd imagined them.
"I just...heard something," I said, still gazing around uneasily.
"Heard what? I didn't hear anything," Kai replied. "You must be imagining things. Come on, we're about to start the movie!"
I took one last look around and hearing nothing, I walked towards Kai. "Yeah. Let's go."
