Y/N hadn't shown up to math the next morning and I was a little worried. I tried to calm myself down and figured she was just running late.

At lunch, I went to the library and I was relieved to see her there. But what I was not relieved to see was her shaking again in her same, sad position.

I sat next to her and as she discerned my presence, she slid a book towards me. Bridge to Terabithia. The same one I'd given her.

"Did you finish it already?" I asked.

She hesitated, letting a short silence linger before confirming, "Yes," in a fragile voice.

"So soon? It's okay, you can keep it—"

"No, that won't be necessary," she said in a rushed whisper, standing up abruptly from the table and turning to leave. Just as she was about to open the door, she looked back at me once and that was when I saw how red and tear-stained her face was. It absolutely broke my heart.

"I'm sorry, Soobin," she choked out before exiting.

I found the whole thing rather strange, but I was more worried than offended. I didn't know why she was so upset. I didn't even understand how she had read the book so fast when she had only been on the third or fourth chapter last time I'd asked.

I held the book in my hands, staring sadly at it, when I noticed a piece of paper sticking out from between two of the pages.

I pulled it out and realized it was acting as a bookmark for Y/N, but luckily I memorized her page number so I could slip back in the paper after. But it wasn't only a bookmark—there was a note written on it:

I'm sorry, Soobin. Thank you for letting me borrow your book. It's beautiful; you have great taste in stories. I wish I could've finished it. He wouldn't let me.

'He wouldn't let me.'

Who was he?
