They all walked through the 7th ward, the path to the Ghoul Restaurant long and dark.

“How long until we get there?” Hinami asked Tsukiyama, her feet dragging. She rubbed her eye, yawning.

“We told you not to come.” Tsukiyama said. “What did we say? We told you-“ he was cut off by Hinami yawning again.

They paused and Kaneki turned to her. “Are you sure you can stay awake for the rest of the night? We can bring you back, if you want.” He said.

Hinami nodded and pulled coffee out of nowhere. She drank some and rubbed her eye, sipping more of the brown liquid, held in a small portable container. “I’ll be okay.” She said.

Kaneki shook his head and they began walking again. “I don’t see why you want to come, Hina-chan.” He said, turning down another street. “We have to kill… some ghouls.” He said.

“Why do you want to kill them?” she asked. She reached up to Tsukiyama to pick her up. He sighed and lifted her, careful not to mess his hair.

He held her on his back and they continued down the new street. “It’s because they kill humans for the sake of killing. They do it just for the joy of it.” Tsukiyama said.

Hinami sipped at her coffee, raising an eyebrow at him. “Even though you created the restaurant?” she asked.

He sighed. “I was so young, innocent, pitiful…” he went on for a little while, no one paying attention to him or stopping him for the sake of filling the silence. He began to speak about the different eccentric people he had had the pleasure of eating. When he got to the part with a band of strippers, Banjou stopped him.

“Tsukiyama… shut up.” He said and the Gourmet shut his mouth.

A few minutes later, they had reached the restaurant. They stood a block or so away, stopping to discuss the plan. “I’ll go in and say that I’m the “dish”. They’ll probably believe me.” Kaneki said.

Hinami slid off Tsukiyama’s back, her small feet touching the ground. “No!” she said. “I want to do it!” she said.

Kaneki stared at her for a moment, his face blank.

“Absolutely not!” Banjou said, crossing his arms. “I take you safety very seriously, and there’s no way I’ll et you do that. I didn’t even want you to come in the first place-“

Kaneki knelt in front of Hinami, looking into her eyes. A little smile played across his lips. “Why shouldn’t she? We’ll be watching closely. And anyway, Tsukiyama-sama will be directing the “show”, and he’ll be at a spot where he can jump down and save her if necessary.” Kaneki stopped as he realized what he was saying. He was going to let Hinami go into danger. “But maybe not, Hina-chan.” He said.

“But you said-“ Hinami started.

Tsukiyama put his hand on her head. “You really shouldn’t. I heard that Madam Red’s new pet is hijō ni kiken(very dangerous) You might get hurt, Hina-san. I don’t think you should, my dear.” He said.

Kaneki nodded. “How about next time?” Kaneki asked, his eyebrows lifting a little. “Please?” he asked.

Hinami sighed, nodding. “Okay…” she put her hands on her hips. “But I get to do it next time!” she said.

Kaneki laughed a little, standing. “Fine. But you have to be good this time.” She nodded, grabbing Kaneki’s hand.

“Okay. We need to go.” Tsukiyama said. He pulled off his trench coat, a nice suit underneath. He tossed the trench into Banjou’s arms. “Hold that.” He said. He looked back to Kaneki. He waved his finger in the air. “Go on.” He said, a perverted look coming over his face.

Kaneki rolled his eyes, letting go of Hinami’s hand and pulled off his jacket, his fighting clothes black and fitting his body well. He handed Banjou his jacket and turned to the big building that was the Ghoul Restaurant. He heard the others slips their masks on as he did, and he took a step forward when there was the sound of hundreds of quinques snapping into place. His head whipped around, his eye red and black.

Doves.
