- chapter eight -

We all ran towards JJ.

"JJ!" I yelled.

"Are you okay?" Pope asked frantically.

He wasn't moving.

"Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Please, please be okay!" I pleaded.

After what felt like hours, he moved.

"JJ!" John B jumped up and reached out his arm.

"Are you fine?" Cleo asked.

JJ coughed and raised his eyebrows.

Sarah looked expectantly at him.

"Uh, yeah… I'm fine," He said.

"Good." I breathed.

He got up and climbed out of the little hole he'd made.

"Wait a minute. Were you worried about me, Kie?" He asked, smirking.

I scoffed in disbelief. "Seriously? That's the first thing you're saying?"

"Well I mean - were you?"

I rolled my eyes as Pope said, "I got so scared, dude. Are you okay?"

"Yeah, I'm fine. Nothing hurts," He said to Pope, but his eyes were on me.

His blond hair had been darkened by the sun, and it had little pieces of wood and grass in it. I had a sudden urge to pick all of it out.

"Okay, that's good. But now we won't be able to use this boat. Wait - where's Sarah?" Cleo asked.

"You guys! Look at what I found here!" Sarah called out.

We turned and went to where she was standing. JJ limped a little behind us.

"Whoa!" John B whispered.

Sarah had found a smaller boat within the big boat. It was barely big enough to fit three people.

"Well, problem solved!" Cleo declared.

"Not really," JJ grimaced.

"Yeah. This boat is too small for us all to fit into it." John B said.

"So, problem is not solved."

"Hey, wait!" I called to the group. "I found something… a - a slip of paper!"

Everyone came over to see what I was holding.

On the paper was a letter. It said:

Dear friend,
By the time you are seeing this, it'll be too late for me. But if you've found this, it's not too late for you. This letter should be found on an island owned by a greedy family - actually, no. A greedy man. He will ruin your life for the sake of his. He will do anything, at any cause. Ward Cameron is a cruel, vicious man. This island is not as empty as you think. Use this boat to get out of this place. Do it as soon as you can!

Run before it's too late.

"Holy hell. It's like everyone knows Ward!" JJ gawked.

"Uh oh. That can't be good! It means there's a chance there have been other people here all along!" Cleo said.

I swore under my breath.

This changes everything. Now we don't have a choice except to leave. But now the boat is ruined, and we have a small one.

"What are we gonna do now?" Sarah voiced exactly what we were all thinking.

a/n - yes, it's a bit of a longer chapter, but now the story will start to get more interesting !! i'm so excited to show you guys what comes next :))
