The next day, the tension between JJ and I could have been cut with a knife.

Every time I saw him, I tried to say something, then remembered Sarah's words.

One particular day, the sun was out and we all decided to go around the island to see what we could find.

I hadn't told the others about the weird figure I've been seeing everywhere. I'm confused, but maybe I'm seeing things.

"We're going to be Dora the Explorer today!" Sarah exclaimed.

She was trying to keep our moods cheerful - and by our, I mean JJ.

"Yes we are!" Cleo laughed.

We were waiting for the boys and Pope came out of his leafy hut first.

"Guys!" He said. "It's been one and a half months since we got here!"

I raised my eyebrows.

Wow. Already?

"Oh, that's cool… I guess?" Sarah offered.

"Damn JJ, your snoring kept me up all night long!" Said an annoyed voice.

"Shut up! I was tired, okay?" An equally annoyed voice rang.

"Mhm, and what were you doing last night that kept you up?" John B asked, shaking fallen leaves from his hair as he emerged from the leaves.

JJ stalked out after him, his face red. "I was… tired, alright?" He looked at me and his nostrils flared.

I looked away and busied myself with my hair.

"Sure. Or - and hear me out - you just wanted to annoy me."

Their annoying bickering lasted for about 10 minutes until finally I gave in.

"God, you guys sound like an old married couple!"

Sarah snorted and Cleo giggled. Pope had already been holding in his laughter and he started shaking, his eyes watering.

JJ's eyes were slightly crinkled, but I knew he wouldn't laugh.

Even if he wanted to.

We set out to look for a boat, and by the afternoon, we were exhausted.

"Ugh! If only we still had that stupid boat!" Pope groaned.

"For real!" Cleo agreed.

"Not much you can do," I said, indirectly defending JJ.

"Yeah, it's not like I planned falling," He said, and I was shocked at the fact that he'd acknowledged me.

I knew this didn't mean he forgave me, but I was hopeful that he might talk to me now.

As we were walking again, I fell into step with JJ, and I felt the silence thicken as every second went by.

He didn't look at me once, but I felt as though he was a little forgiving about what I'd done.

I still wish I had a time machine.
