A few hours later, morning light illuminated the small room of the two sleeping boys. They were still cuddled up next to one another. Mello began to stir slightly, coming out of his REM cycle. His hug on Matt's torso tightened momentarily as his eyes slowly blinked open. His head was still on the other's chest, blonde hair spread out in a golden halo. He uttered a soft groan as his icy eyes were exposed to the brightness of the room. His brow furrowed momentarily as he attempted to hesitantly untangle his limbs from Matt, combing his blonde mop neatly back down with his fingers. Some time durring the course of the night he and Matt's legs had become knotted together. The blonde smiled at this, nuzzling his face back into the red head's chest.

He looked up at the boy, who had fallen asleep with his orange goggles pulled tightly against his closed eyes. It's gonna be funny when he gets a tan line from those things. Mello thought as he lay on his chest. He closed his eyes again, seeing his eyelids glow from the brightness of the room.

Times like this, where it was actualy quiet enough to think, brought back a flood of memories. Lots of memories of he and Matt, and memories of his past, before Whammy's. But most of all, memories  from when he had first arrived at Whammy's...

His arrival was not a glorious one. He had been just ten years old when Roger pushed him through the gates of Whammy's. Every previous orphanage had rejected the blonde, claiming he was "too violent" or "hyperactive". Once they complained he was "too brilliant for his own good". That particular one had even tried to pin him with Asperger's Syndrome. Today he would scoff at the notion.

Roger had driven cross-country to pick up little Mello, making the trip in only a week. As they drove back, Mello had asked the man all sorts of questions. "Where are we going?" And "What's it like there?" Were among the most frequent of them.He made his goal to push as many of Roger's buttons as his little fingers could touch. But as soon as they had reached their destination, a frazzled Roger ushered a now shy Mello into the lobby.

His large blue orbs took in everything. He examined the entry way from floor boards to crown molding. The blonde's lips were now tightly shut,  his expression was molded into a hesitant and shy look. There were benches along each of the walls, some had other new kids sitting on them and others were empty.

A girl, about the age of three sat at the other side of the room on her own bench. She had messy blonde hair and huge, bright green eyes. She was very small, and her terrible posture made her look even smaller. But somehow, when looking at her, Mello was reminded strangely of himself. The girl swung her legs on the bench absently, looking nothing but confident in herself. She was a small ray of sunshine in the overcast of his vision.

"Why don't you have a seat. Another student will be by shortly to conduct a tour for you all." Roger instructed him.

He nodded up at the man obiently "O-okay.." he said softly.

As he started to walk to the bench the girl was sitting on, Roger grabbed his wrist, pulling the boy back to him "And remember, your name is Mello. Not Mihael Keehl. Just Mello." He whispered into the blonde's ear.

Mello tugged at his grip and managed to wrench his wrist away. There was a small red mark. The boy rubbed his wrist and looked down, nodding softly "Fine." He whispered back before trotting over to the girl on the bench.

As he reached the girl she looked up, her green orbs bounced down to his feet and immediately back to his eyes. "Hi." She said softly.

"H-hi.. C-can I sit with you?" Mello replied sheepishly.
