Mello lay there, blue orbs shut to the world and his mind racing with visions of the past.

Matt's eyes fluttered open gently and looked around the room through the orange tint of his goggles. The feeling of Mello's head on his chest brought a rush of blood to his cheeks. Mello had no notion that he had woken up and seemed to be deep in thought, his eyes were closed, but his fingers traced absent patterns along Matt's torso.

The redhead's goggles dug into his skull tightly, he was almost positive that he had marks of their outline embedded into his face. He gave a small sigh and tugged the goggles off, resting them in his red hair.

Mello was jolted out of thought by Matt's movement, his icy orbs sprung open and his thoughts scrambled themselves into tight knotts. Butterflies tickled at the sides of his stomach. The boy tilted his head up to look at his friend.

Matt smiled down at the blonde and wiggled under him. His arms wrapped themselves around him and pulled him closer, pressing a soft kiss to his forhead. Blonde hair tickled his nose, making him scrunch his face up cutely.

A pink tint made its way to Mello's cheeks as the touch of his lips, a shy smile tugged at his lips. "Good morning." He whispered to the redhead in a soft, sleepy voice.

"Mmh, yes it is." Matt replied.

The blonde found the other boy's bright green irises and reluctantly sat up next to him. He stretched his arms out above him, making his shirt tug up to show off his pale stomach. He uttered a small noise as he stretched and took in a deep breath.

Matt mimicked him, sitting up and smiling as he stretched. Their eyes connected once again and each boy grinned shyly at the other.

"Want some breakfast~?" Mello asked, eyeing the crack in the door out of the corner of his eye.

Matt nodded eagerly, his eyes roamed the sunny room.

Sounds of happy, tired children waking and making their way to the kitchen for their morning meals filled the orphanage.

The blonde slung his legs out of bed, clothed in dark jeans from yesterday. He slowly slid down to the floor and stood on the warped hardwood.

Matt followed him, grabbing his PSP from where it had fallen to the floor and died, he placed it in the charging port and pulled on his worn combat boots over the cuffs of blue jeans.

Mello looked out the window at the hatching day. Outside, cool morning air brushed against the tops of the trees in the orchard a gental autumn breeze fluttered through their leaves. Clouds marked the pastel blue of the sky in long, almost transparent brush strokes that stretched down to the horizon. Sunlight wove down from the sky, winding through the branches of trees and illuminating the falling leaves. The trees had turned a firey orange over the last month, and had begun shedding their leaves.

The redhead came behind him, combat boots clunking against the hardwood, and wrapped his arms around the blonde. His chin rested on the other's shoulder and his green orbs looked out to the day.

The breezes dipped into the open window and carresses the boys' cheeks. It wound its way through Matt's hair and russled Mello's back to tickle the other's cheek.
