It was often difficult for Leiria to make new friends, so when she did, she had a habit of scaring them off because she had such a strong desire to be close to them. One such girl, though, actually enjoyed her desire to be close, and somewhat understood. Her name was Felicia- they'd met at the Academy, as most people did. She'd told Leiria that her name was pretty, and from there, a friendship had been formed.
"Are you hungry?" asked Leiria. "I just got a text- my husband made potato dumplings and bacon with cheese pasta."
"You're married?" asked Felicia. She sounded surprised.
"Yes, that's why I stumbled a bit when I told you my name earlier." Leiria nodded, remembering how embarrassed she'd felt when she'd said, "My name is Leiria Oliveira- um, Kinneas."
"Is your husband tall like you?"
"Oh, he's taller. Half a foot taller, I believe. He's really nice, so you don't have to worry about when you meet him. He's a great cook too." Leiria smiled. "I think you'll like him very much. We're almost there now; we live just outside Academia. That's what the Academy neighborhood is called."
"Okay." Felicia nodded, but gasped when she saw Leiria run to a bunch of stacked boxes.
"Let's go this way! We'll get there faster," explained Leiria, giggling, as she began to climb the boxes.
"Wait for me! I have little legs!" Felicia struggled to keep up with the skinny, long-legged Leiria.
The two girls made it to the Kinneas home quickly, where Martine was busy stirring the pasta he'd just got done boiling. "That you, Leiry?" he called.
"Yes, it's me. I've brought a friend." Leiria beckoned for Felicia to follow her into the kitchen. "Felicia, this is my husband, Martine. Martine, this is Felicia."
"A pleasure to meet you, darlin'," he said, bowing to her, making her blush a little. "Any friend of Leiry's is a friend of mine. You hungry? I got food here."
"Oh. I don't know..."
"Don't be so shy, I ain't one to let a lady go hungry. You can have mine; I got called into Garden."
"You're leaving?" asked Leiria.
"Only for a few hours, I gotta check in for a few things with Squall. A physical, among other things. Shouldn't take long; I'll be back before dark." Martine smiled.
"Promise?"
"Promise." Martine sat his would-be plate in front of Felicia, and went to give Leiria a kiss. "Love you."
"Love you more!" Leiria smiled.
Martine laughed. "Nice meetin' you, Felicia," he said, before waving and leaving the house.
"He's nice. Nice and handsome," Felicia said before taking a look at the plate. "This is a lot of food!"
Leiria laughed. "Yes, Martine's appetite is what he's known for at Garden. Well, one of the things, although I don't really care for the other rumor."
"There's a rumor about your husband? Oh, but rumors are usually only spread about bad people." Felicia took a bite of the pasta. Yummy. "What is it?"
"Well, he built a reputation before we got married. A lot of the women there say he's just a womanizer, but that couldn't be farther from the truth. He loves me." Leiria smiled.
"A woman...izer?" repeated Felicia.
"I don't know if they call it something different where you're from. A man who's been with a lot of women?"
Felicia stared at her blankly. "I don't understand what you mean by 'been with.'"
"Oh. Yes, I suppose that euphemism may not be in use with everyone either... I'm sorry. I'm a foreigner too." Leiria smiled. "A womanizer is a man who, having no emotional attachment to any of them, has a lot of sex with very many women; that isn't Martine at all."
Felicia continued to stare at Leiria blankly.
"What did I say wrong that time?!"
"What's sex?" Felicia tilted her head.
Leiria stared at her this time. "It's the method used between a man and a woman to create offspring. You know, how you and I exist- but it can also be done for pleasure, I've heard, between any two people that love each other, regardless of gender."
"Oh. Okay." Felicia nodded. "But how's that?"
"How is it done? I don't know, actually..." Leiria scrunched her face. "It gets kinda fuzzy, because I was never told exactly how. From what I gathered, the man is supposed to use his genitalia for something..." Now, Leiria was just as confused.
"What's genitalia?" asked Felicia.
At least Leiria knew that. "You know how you pee? Well, men have a different way they pee, it's through an external organ. It has a name, but..." Leiria turned red just thinking of it.
"Okay. I don't want you to be embarrassed." Felicia smiled.
"Why don't you know any of this? My mum taught me when I was six." Leiria frowned.
"Children know this stuff?!"
"Well, when I was six my mum got pregnant... but then she had a miscarriage, so she decided she should explain to me why all of that happened." Leiria looked down sadly, remembering the death of her unborn sibling. "I'm told that they teach this in schools, but I was home-schooled until I was sixteen; that's when I moved here."
"I was homeschooled too," Felicia told her.
"Yes, but I still know this and you don't."
"I guess my father took great care to make sure I didn't know any of it." Felicia shrugged.
"Well, now I'm curious, because if Martine and I are to do this to have children, I'd at least like to know how it's done." Leiria drummed her fingers on the table. "Maybe I should ask my Aunt Maceida. She always tells me things that my mum doesn't..."
