She smiled warmly as she walked towards him before putting his head in her hands, "You look just like yall damn daddy" she chuckled, shaking her head. Jesse weakly smiled in return.

I looked at the two's exchange in confusion before previous thoughts made its way to the front of my attention. I fiddled with the ring on my finger as I got anxious, "How do you know each other?", I finally questioned, "Baby, everyone in this room knows that you probably know whats going on", my mother replied, making me chuckle dryly, "Oh. So then to be clear we're all aware that I had a older brother somewhere out in the world and you chose not to tell me, thank you for clarifying"

"You always bitching, damn nigga", Jesse moved towards me to try and put me in a head lock so I swung blindly and landed a punch to his jaw. He stumbled a little making my eyes widen in shock, I didn't mean to hit him that hard. Jesse regained his balance, standing up straight rubbing his hand over his now bruised jaw, he let out a humourless laugh, and I swear I saw his hand twitch in the direction of his gun.

"Aight this is not Jerry springer sit yall black asses down and we'll talk", My mom said, regaining our attention. We followed her to the dinner table in the kitchen, each of us taking a seat. Silence consumed the air as we all looked at eachother.

"Hey, we share the same deadbeat ass father!" I said trying dap Jesse up to break the silence, all I was met with was a slap to the back of my head which made Jesse laugh, until he was slapped too, "I don't know what you in here akekekeing like you wasn't in here cussing up a storm, I should slap you upside your head again", "Sorry ma'am." Jesse said as he put his head down.

"I fought for you, you know Jesse, I didn't want your mama to take you God knows where knowing how she got. I tried but I ain't have enough to pay the lawyers and keep a roof over our head same time and Calvin was starting to come around less and when he was here he wouldn't help me get you, Jesse I am so sor-", "You don't have to be sorry, you did what you could, I was old enough to remember how everything went down, you tried your best , I turned out alright" Jesse spoke before smiling.

"Do you know where she is?" my mother asked, referring to Jesse's mother I assume, "Dead." he answered looking back down. I internally cringed remembering how many times I joked about him not having a mothers love. "Dead for how long?", "Shortly after I was released into her custody she was still involved with drugs and started gambling, really started gambling, our house, car, shit, me." he paused to laugh before continuing, "When people came to collect she didn't have shit left to give so she was gonna run, they caught her first, and that was that" he finished.

"That's when you met Lance?" I asked, "Yeah, him and Tyra gave me somewhere to stay, got me anything I needed. I wouldn't be here without them", he answered, causing me to nod. "Lance Promise?"My mom looked between the two of us, "We don't know his last name, it's just Lance" I lied, she said his name like 'Lance Promise, drug dealing Lance?' she doesn't need to know that man's last name, "The hell are you talking about Easton you know his last name. It's Promise" Jesse spoke making me cut my eyes at him, read the fucking room, my mom scoffed, "You're fucking selling drugs" she looked at me, it wasn't a question, "I mean I wouldn't say we're selling- I mean whats your definition of selli- If you really think-", "Jesse shut up nigga, damn." I cut off his rambling.
