(A/N Surprise! I'm back again so soon! Glad to see you guys still enjoying this little story of mine. I've still got a long while to go so don't expect to see me ending this story any time soon :) Oh the suspense we left off on last chapter, on we go! || TW: Depictions of injuries)
The light sears my eyes as I open them. My whole body aches, and my brain is pounding against my skull. When I refocus my sight, I see four silhouettes leaned over me, as chatter echoes among them. My arm feels cold.
I sit up, and place a hand on my head, as it furiously aches. Gordie puts a hand on my shoulder and kneels down to my level, while Tessio nervously stands behind him, mouth agape. I hadn't seen it on their faces, but Teddy and Chris were deathly worried, stood with furrowed brows as Gordie examined my expression.
Teddy lightens up a little, "At least we know when the next train was due."
Chris gave him a stern look.
Out of my pain, I prop myself up and laugh a little, looking back at Teddy, "Good ol' fashioned train dodge, huh. Surprised I did it before you?" I poke
I finally understand why Vern was so shaken. My eyes follow his to my arm, where I had felt cold prior. There before me, is my forearm, lacerated and still gushing blood. The cut is rough and deep. Looking down the hill, I see my blood laid lightly in the plants below to me, as a couple blades of grass stick to the wound. I reach to touch it, but immediately recoil from a sour pain that twangs through my whole body.
My hand now glistens in the sun as my blood drips slowly down my fingers, coagulating into a small puddle at my palm. My ears are ringing, and I can only occasionally hear what the boys had been saying. All of them had strong looks of concern panging on their faces, as they loom over me.
"Are you okay?" "Oh my god" "Jesus" "eeee-eeee-eeee"
It all echoed around my head.
Finally, the ringing stops.
My eyes fall back to my arm, my short torn up the sleeve. I grip the loose material dangling from the shirt and rip it off. It looks ridiculous, as the shirt is now half-sleeveless, but it was necessary. I reach to my cantine of water, and pour some of it over the wound, as the others watch in temporary awe. I wince at the pain as the lukewarm water drips down it, pooling with my blood.
Teddy understands what I am attempting to do, and takes a knee by my left side, and grabs the fabric from my hands. I take a deep breath as he pulls the fabric taut and wraps it around the wound. It just barely covers the entire gash. The abundance of blood seeps through the material, and is visible, but the wound is covered.
"eeee-eeee-eeee oh fuck Y/N you really got me good there. You shoulda seen the look on your face!" He reaches out a hand to help me stand up.
I let out a groan as I come to my feet. When I stand up, my head aches just a little stronger. I look over to Vern, who is pale as a ghost.
"Woah there you look terrified. You see your brother or somethin?"
Teddy leans on my opposite shoulder, doubling in laughter while recounting the event just moments before, "Vern you were so scared you looked like the fat guy in Abbott and Costello the time he saw the mummy."
"I wasn't that scared! Sincerely"
Chris raises an eyebrow, "Really now?"
"Yeah yeah! You won't mind if we check the seats of your jockeys for hershey-squirts, will ya?" Teddy laughs once more.
"Oh screw" he spits.
"Let's get moving, we don't wanna waste any more sunlight." Gordie says.
And with that, we all move to walk back up the hill. I had fallen maybe twenty feet further than Vern and Gordie had, right by the ledge of a sharp drop. Had I bailed the tracks any earlier, I would have hit the water. I shiver at the thought.
