"Jamie! Don't!"
I saw a devilish grin flash his face just as Aunt Clee grabbed her throat and fell to the floor. Her eyes rolled back, only the white part showed.
Ah, shit not again.
I ignored the presense of a supernatural force and the voices in my head and crawled toward Aunt Clee. I placed my hand on her jugular, praying I'd feel a pulse. There wasn't. I whipped my head around and glared at Jamie. The develish grin was replaced with a frown, and he soon started whimpering.
"Jade, I.. I d-didn't..." And he burst into tears. I hopped up and ran towards him, pulling him into my arms and softly patted his light brown hair, trying to soothe him. "It's okay," I murmured, and stood up. "Go pack." He nodded and went to get his suitcase from the closet.
Time to flee again... Pity. I knew not to get used to one area for too long, but I really liked the people here.
I stepped over Aunt Clee's body and walked back to my room. I sighed heavily, and heaved the huge suitcase out of my closet. I should be used to packing by now, but it's impossible, I hate it. I packed until there was barely space left, and went to my dresser and grabbed a picture frame with a picture of my parents, Jamie, & I.
I miss them so much.
I gritted my teeth and blinked a couple of times to keep from crying. I hate crying, it shows weakness. I carried my things downstairs and placed them right next to the front door. I walked back up to Jamie's room and softly knocked.
"You ready?" I asked.
I waited in front of the door for 5 minutes. When Jamie got unresponsive it really sucked. I sighed and opened the door. He was sitting in the middle of the room again, his favorite spot. But I was glad to see a suitcase next to him. I suppressed a sigh and waved my hand in front of his big, brown and blank eyes. They seemed to gain their sparkle back, and he looked up at me and smiled. I smiled back.
"Let's go J." I said, tugging on his arm. "It's time."
He frowned. "But I have a friend here. Even though everyone at school calls me crazy and weird, she doesn't care. She says I have.. Po.. Po something."
I tried not to smile. "Potential?"
"Yeah that..." He blushed. "I don't wanna leave. You know I didn't mean to do it Jade! Why can't we make it seem like it was a murderer who broke in or something..." He trailed off.
"Jamie," I sighed.
"It's not like she was our real aunt."
I winced.
Okay so... Clee wasn't really our aunt. You see, I have the ability to make people think what I want them to think. I don't know what it's called or how it works, so don't ask. I'm new to all this myself. All I know is, when I need something done I get it done. Jamie and I needed a home, since our parents aren't around. I couldn't have Jamie living on the street where he could unconciously hurt many people. I found this old lady living on her own, so I took the oppurtunity. She was naggy and annoying, it's not like anyone would miss her. So just a little zappy here and a zappy there and voila! She became our new guardian. Well...was.
"Yeah but that doesn't mean you can brush off the fact that she's dead now. You know what daddy always used to say."
"Keep on moving, don't ever stop." He repeated the line from my memories exactly how my dad used to say it."
"Exactly." I smirked.
"Fine." he stomped off.
What was I going to do with this kid.
I grabbed his suitcase and headed out his door. Something white caught my eye, it was by the foot of Jamie's bed. Curiously I tilted my head to the side. Hmm. I walked up to it and grabbed it. At first it was blank, I was going to throw it back on the ground. But as soon as my fingers touched it, ancient black lettering was written, as if by an invisible pen.
I instantly remembered my father's handwriting.
"Darker times are coming. You can either run or fight. Don't let them capture you, you are Jamie's only hope. Create allies, allies that will substitute for your weaknesses. Hurry."
Right when I finished reading it outloud, the paper caught on fire. I cried out in pain and dropped it. It burned to ashes then vanished. I looked at my fingers. They were just scorching red and hot. Now they were normal.
Okay... Now I'm going insane.
I shook my head a couple of times and stood up. I met Jamie out by the front.
"So, where are we going now Jade?" I frowned. I had no idea.
"What about Denise? Can't we live with her?"
I smiled. I swear Jamie could read my mind.
I had the urge to hug him, so I did. He shrugged me off and I just laughed.
I looked into his eyes and noticed that they were developing a red tint. It was only faintly red, but still. Running out of time echoed the voice in my head. I bit my lip.
I'm running out of time.
