Man's enemies are not demons, but human beings like himself.
-Lao Tzu
Phoenix POV
The sweet smell of lilac flooded my memories once again. The hypnotizing way her long black hair bent and embraced the wind was painted behind my eyelids, for every time I closed my eyes the image engulfed me. I could not stop thinking of those wide eyes that are always filled with confusion, worry, stress or all of them combined. Those piercing red irises that are in total contrast with her name.
"Jade."
"Huh? Who are you daydreaming about man?" The voice pulled me out of my wonders. I spoke aloud?
I turned to face my childish friend, Desmond. Well I consider him more as an acquaintance, but he thinks otherwise.
"I do not day dream. Do not insult me, I waste no time being naive and frolicking through flowery dream fields." I replied coldly. "Run along and go fulfill your duties."
He mumbled something incoherent but I've gotten used to just ignoring him.
I closed my eyes and pinched the bridge of my nose, a habit I picked up when deep in thought or frustrated. I thought back on how I was able to defy the protective circle. Denise is a young but powerful woman whos spells and enchantments are nearly unbreakable. I, on the other hand, am one of the most powerful young ones on the dark side under the wing of our leader Daemon. But the circle is meant to keep all those that are dark and evil out. Maybe there is a loophole, and I fit the description of it. No matter. This can be used as a great advantage in getting what I want.
You see, I never had a choice in the matter of running with demons. That is what they are, and us, as you can say, "demons in training" are raised and taught. My parents were so young and foolish, and had to give up what they loved most to save themselves. And in the end they weren't saved, but rather entrapped. But that is a story I'd prefer not to think about.
I stalked towards the long, dark alley, my hair plastered to my face from the rain. This was my first mission. It claws at my pride to admit that I feel symphathy for what is about to happen. But I would not let anyone know that.
I silently blended with the shadows as I let my senses transport me to my destination. So much more helpful than simply walking. I looked at the girl's sleeping frame. I must do this.
Piercing screams echoed throughout the room, and thinking of Jade kept me from dying of remorse as the screams gargled and ended.
