I squinted for what seemed like the hundreth time. The sun was so bright, and the further we walked the hotter it seemed to get. Thank God we were already here. As I
walked through the neighborhood I used to spend my childhood in, I curiously glanced around and analyzed. All the houses were the exact color as they were 10 years ago, all of them a light gray.
"So are we there yet?" asked Jamie for the three-hundreth time. I decided to just ignore him now.
Just a few more steps, Jade. I told myself.
As we approached the old, dull gray house that I visited so many times in my childhood, I felt a strange feeling... That creepy 'I think someone is watching me' feeling. I did a quick scan of the area. My eyes settles on the woods that were near the supermarket.
Then everything happened so fast.
I heard Jamie's scream and whirled around to see him collapsing to the floor, completely unconsious. My heart started pounding in my chest and I couldn't think. Something told me to turn around.
Deep in the woods I swear I saw a pair of scarlet eyes, staring dead at me. I blinked and my chest exploded into flames. I swear I was on fire, slowly burning and burning...
I couldn't inhale. When I did I inhaled smoke and ash. My lungs ached. The smell of my burning flesh made me want to vomit. Finally the lack of oxygen caught up with me, and I blacked out.

"What if she doesn't wake up?" That voice sounded familiar. And they sounded so sad and concerned, why are you so sad?
"She will. She isn't breathing as deep anymore, she should be opening her eyes any second now." Who the hell is that?
I was debating whether or not to open my eyes. I wanted to hear more, but they kept quiet for too long. I opened my eyes and the bright light made me squint, geesh that hurt. I raised my arm to block the light and realized something.
My arm wasn't burnt to a crisp.
I sat up so quickly a wave of dizziness attacked me and my stomach churned uncomfortably. I was in a white room that looked oddly familiar. The only color in this room were the portraits that hung on the wall. sheesh, looks like a mental institute.
"Jade."
The hairs on my arm stood up. I slowly turned my head and saw it was Denise, my cousin. Oh, it's just her. Why am i overreacting.
"What...What happened to me? " I could barely get the words out, my throat was real dry. "Why am I alive?"
"You fainted just outside my house. It's a good thing I have excellent hearing, I heard Jamie's piercing screams and ran outside and found you collapsed on the floor bleeding from a wound on your head."
But I didn't faint. I burned. I touched the back of my head, ow what the heck?
I got out the bed quickly and examined my body in the mirror hanging on the door. I was perfectly fine, no scratches, burns or bruises.
Oh no. It was another one of those illusions I've been having, it had to be. Was i going officially batshit crazy?
I held my tears. "Where's Jamie? Is he ok? Take me to him!" I opened the door and attempted to run out but tripped over my own feet.
Strong, muscular arms caught me before I fell on my face. I looked up and was captivated by the most beautiful pair of eyes I have ever seen. Not to mention the incredibly hot face too. I blushed a deep scarlet as he lifted me up and steadied me.
"Ah, you must be little Jade." his voice was like bells.
"I.. Yes. who are you?" I'm sure I had a confused face.
" My name is Phoenix."
Warning bells went off in my head as soon as his name left his lips.
"Jamie is in the room. Want to see him?" I couldn't find my voice so I just nodded. We walked down the hallway he pointed to Jamie's door.
"Thanks," I mumbled, and rushed inside and locked the door. Jamie was sleeping. Thank God Jamie was safe...I swear I saw him collapse I thought he was dead. The thought of losing my little Jamie made me sick to my stomach. His legs started twitching uncontrollably, I knew he was having a nightmare but it was best not to wake him up or else he'll wake up screaming his lungs out. I wrapped my arms around him and whispered how much I loved him and he seemed to calm.
I realized we were in a very odd room. The color of the walls were a nasty rusty red color that made me uncomfortable. There were atleast a hundred or more nails just hammered in the walls in weird angles. Creepy.
There was an old wooden desk in the corner filled with documents. My curiosity got the best of me and I sat down in the old wooden chair, glancing at the documents. One peculiar document caught my eye, it was headed "Demon Enchantments". The hell? Denise was never into this kind of stuff...
A hard knock on the door scared the living shit out of me, i literally jumped in my chair. "Um...come in"
Denise walked in with a weird expression on her face. I looked at her, like really looked at her, and noticed she looked very different. She used to have golden blonde hair with beautiful, shiny emerald eyes that would melt your heart. Her hair now looked like dead wheat and her eyes were so dark I couldn't really see her pupil.
"Why have you come here?" she asked.
"Jamie and I need your help. We're alone and don't know where to go."
"Well you may certainly stay here, child. You have a very unusual pendant. May I hold it?" she smiled a creepy smile.
My necklace? Of all people Denise should know I never take off the necklace my dad gave me for protection. Something wasn't right. This isn't Denise.
I hesitated. "Who are you?"
I didn't get a respond. Her smile grew into a full on grin, revealing yellowed teeth.
Looks like I'm in some deep shit.
