Preface

I couldn't hear anything except for my heartbeat pounding extremely loud in my ears, making my body tremble. It was hard to focus, and I barely had any time left.

I knew I was going to die.

I pushed my luck to the furthest extent, I can no longer protect myself.

I was walking on the edge of a knife, and I've taken the last step off the edge.

I rose from my crouch, my calves screaming in protest, and ran.

I knew there was no use in running, for The Others would catch up to me in a flash. I strived to get as far away as I could regardless. Adrenaline pumped and flowed through my veins, causing them to bulge in my skin and ache badly.

Maybe I'd have time left, and be able to tell Jamie how sorry I was...

A rock hard hand violently gripped around my throat, immediately cutting off oxygen to my brain. I let out noiseless screams, I couldn't find my voice. My legs were thrashing and dangling in the air as the hand lifted me up.

I felt my spinal cord heave as I was smashed against a brick wall and excruciating pain now spread faster than lightening throughout my body. Tears pooled in my eyes also causing blind spots in my vision.

I felt myself slipping into unconsiousness, as the lack of oxygen was kicking in.

Sleeping sounded like such a heavenly thing to do at this point...

"Release her."

And suddenly I was dropped. Dropped from a high point actually, I felt the wind of my fall cause a very unpleasant ringing in my ears, and I heard and felt my smaller ribs crack as I hit the floor.

Then everything went black.
