Quinton was currently ticked off.
First and foremost, he was ticked off at Nora. Yes, Nora, his mate. A mate that was anything but obedient or dainty. Rather, Nora as opinionated and she disobeyed him. On top of all that, Nora could sure hold a grudge. She'd been bristling ever since that unfortunate afternoon. At dinner she kept her conversation to a minimum and in the bedroom, Quinton felt so unwanted, he almost left her bed and returned to his own.
But there was no way that he was going to let Nora get the best of him- come hell or high water. His bark was just as loud as hers. His staying did displease her though and he was fighting for blankets and space all night. His slumber disturbed several times. Nora's attitude didn't change yet and it had been a few days.
And Quinton still wasn't aware as to why she was so angry. I mean, so what if he denied her permission to work? What does his mate need with an occupation? Nora was provided everything, from shelter to food. Any luxury should could possibly want would be hers, if only she were to ask. Quinton knew that he was completely within his rights to forbid her from working at Sheridan.
However, apparently not everyone saw eye to eye with him. Bringing him to problem number two: Blaine.
"Quinton, I am assessing both sides of the situation. Nora does have reason to be cross with you." Blaine said, trying to step lightly, not wanting to step on Quinton's toes.
They were in the sitting room, discussing the situation over lunch. Blaine and the whole household for that matter, were aware of the tension between Quinton and Nora. Blaine decided to question Quinton about it.
"That is what I'm trying to get her to understand. Nora is not just some independent individual. As my mate, she is bound to me, and should act accordingly. I do have a say in the decisions that she wants to make. She should show some deference."
"Quinton, I mean this in the more respectful of matters, but I think that you are confusing your position as mate and as beta."
"Elaborate." Quinton demanded.
"Nora is your mate and therefore you do have the right to have a say. Nora should then have a say in your life as well. However, in being that you are also beta, you have legal right to, essentially, make Nora do whatever you like."
"And thankfully so. If it were not for me being a beta, that willful girl would do nothing that I demand."
"So you think. I believe that were you not a beta, you would have to use other methods - not just dominance and legal precedence - to convince her. Instead of demanding, you would have to ask and negotiate - two concepts that are clearly foreign to you."
"False. I have taken great measures to ensure that my relationship with Nora advances. I admit, that at first I was callous, however, since then I have softened. Why am I still the bad guy?"
"I agree that you have attempted to be more gentile towards her and I think she too recognizes the change. However, I do not think you tackled this particular circumstance in the best of ways. For example, telling her to take up a hobby? I mean Quinton, that was just a tad bit patronizing."
Quinton huffed and looked away from Blaine.
"She's just looking for something to do! I do not want Sheridan to become some playground for her to amuse herself with."
"Give her more credit than that, Quinton. Carl has told us countless times that she is ready and willing to take lead - she is yearning for opportunity to prove herself. Sheridan would be a wonderful opportunity for her to enhance her knowledge of the wolfen world and the politics that you are immersed in."
Quinton tightened his jaw, not willing to admit to Blaine that he had some point. Blaine sighed.
"I am just trying to give you advice that would improve your relationship with Nora."
"I do not want her working there." Quinton said, adamant.
"Then at least allow her to volunteer there...'internship' if you will. Think of it this way: the less time she has to herself, the less trouble she can get herself in."
Quinton cocked his head.
"I never thought of it like that."
"Yes. The less trouble she gets herself in and the more knowledge she gains. There are so many advantages to her accompanying us to Sheridan."
"I suppose." Quinton begrudgingly replied. "Though, I will oversee her schedule."
"Rightly so."
"There is only so much time I want her devoting to Sheridan."
"Tell her that."
"Very well. Call for Mary, will you Blaine?"
"Certainly."
Blaine got up and left the room, in search of Mary.
Quinton shook his head. It was never his intent to be the "big bad wolf." Quinton simply wanted order and obedience. That dream was being chipped away at slowly, every time he found himself having to submit to Nora's whim. "I can't allow her to have the upper hand." What if word got out that Quinton was allowing his woman to command his life? Predators pray on weakness.
Then again, perhaps it was best to keep on Nora's good side for now. The full moon was closer than ever - just a couple of days away actually. It had already been two cycles and he had had to lock himself in his room for the first two to prevent touching he. He had yet to discuss the logistics with her, not wanting to scare her away. However, Quinton was counting down the days, hours, minutes, and seconds. Having his mate so near to him was the utmost temptation. Another reason for him wanting to keep Nora from Sheridan was that her being there would not help his self control. If it were not for the work load that he had to deal with, Quinton would be being driven up the wall - or rather to the bedroom. Nora's smell, touch, and even her laughter, was enough to send his blood flowing in one singular direction. With the approaching moon, his problems were not getting alleviated. Quinton would soon have to discuss the process with her, because there was no avoiding the inevitable.
Time passed and eventually Quinton grew tired of waiting and decided to go see what the hold up was. He called for Mary but got no response. Using his nose, he managed to find both her and Blaine, huddled in conversation.
"Mary, I sent for you long ago." Quinton said.
Both Blaine and Mary looked at him, silent. However, Quinton caught onto Mary's fidgeting, for she was wringing a handkerchief in her hands so tightly that her knuckles were white. On top of that, Mary's face was blanched and Blaine too looked highly disturbed.
"What's going on here?" Quinton asked, sensing that something was amiss.
"Sir. Reeves, now brace yourself..." Mary began, before taking a shaky breath.
"For what..."
Mary looked to Blaine, pleadingly.
"Quinton, there's an issue." Blaine interjected.
"I can sense that. Now out with it!" Quinton demanded.
"We cannot seem to locate, Nora."
"What do you mean, you cannot locate her?" Quinton said, bristling.
"Well, sir, she's missing. Mary and I have looked all over the estate and we cannot seem to find her. I sent several attendees around to canvas the area."
All emotion on Quinton' stood as straight as a rod, his face impassive.
Blaine and Mary looked at each other,
"Q-Quinton?" Mary asked, timidly.
Before their very eyes, Quinton began to shake violently and he let let out a fearsome roar that was loud enough to quake the heavens.
Oh goodness me! Where or where has Nora gone? Or where or where can she be?
