"Long time. No speak." Carl enthusiastically stated as he made himself comfortable.
"Very true." Nora agreed, grinning. "Did you miss me?"
"Of course. How could I not miss my favorite pulpit."
"Favorite?" Nora stated, surprised. She'd never been anyone's favorite before. Well apart from being D.D's favorite daughter, that is.
"You didn't hear that from me." Carl winked, taking off his glasses and rubbing the lenses with a cloth. Nora pretended to zip her lips shut.
"How have you been, Nora?" Carl asked Nora, placing his spectacles back on his face.
"I've been..." Nora trailed off and Carl looked at her expectantly.
"Cat got your tongue?"
Nora shook her head.
"No. I've been really really good actually." Nora answered flatly.
"Why do you make that sound like a bad thing?"
"No...no, it's not a bad thing at all. Just an unusual thing for me to say. I never expected to have any sort of a good time here at all." Nora admitted with a shrug.
"Life is full of surprises, isn't it? Well at least you're doing the best with the cards that you have been handed. So bravo to you." Carl applauded her lightly.
"Oh please." Nora waved her hand in the air, dismissing his gesture.
"Whether you accept it or not, I am proud of your ability to...carry on as they say."
"It was either that or be miserable."
"Yes. Life is all about choices." Carl cleared his throat and rifled through some papers on the desk. "Now then, lets begin. Did you manage to find the time to continue your readings?"
"Yes! I've actually finished the whole book."
"Seriously? That's some heavy reading there. How'd you manage?"
"I don't know...I couldn't put it down most of the time. I mean the history itself is so interesting."
"I adore your enthusiasm. What is your favorite tale then?"
"Well reading about the Order of Mathias and his followers was very interesting. That book might just become my favorite."
"That's wonderful to hear. We'll be moving on now and getting into topics of government and legislation. I'll just start from the top."
"You're favorite part."
"You've been listening."
Much like during the last appointment, Carl gave Nora a throughout explanation of the development of the the lupine people from its birth. As Carl had stated, during the Dark Ages, lycans lived savagely without any guidance apart from the multitude of packs that existed throughout the globe. When Mathias reigned, a renaissance began in the late 1600's. The Order, founded in India at the time, devised a system of government that would allow for the lycans to live at one with the humans. The Order proposed as oligarchy, where the entire lycan species would be governed by those who were biologically chosen to lead. Alphas from every faction were to come together to deliberate on the welfare of their species.
"So our system of government today is based on what the Order said all those years ago?" Nora questioned.
"Loosely based. Numerous changes have since been enacted. Many obstacles had to be overcome. For example, advocates of the Order were sent out so that the wolves of most every continent could make changes accordingly. Now, can you imagine how many packs there were in those days. Thousands upon thousands of wolf factions, all with their own alphas, and let me tell you that not all of them were up to cooperation. There was disorder for a very long time, until the Order realized that a change was needed to control the rivalries."
