Nya's POV

Exam week had started and I'd been studying like my life depended on it, because let's be honest, it kinda does.

Jay and I hadn't spoken since our kiss in his pool days back. I'd essentially shut everyone out of my life to focus on my exams. Just one last push and I'll be done. Granted, not done permanently, but I'll be able to catch a well-deserved break.

My first exam was Maths, which went perfectly without a hitch. I was running on 5 hours of sleep, and a bucket load of coffee to help. Kai stayed out of my way, claiming I get "murderous" when I'm stressed, which I personally disagree with.

Next was English, Chemistry, World Geography and Biology, which I could've done a little better in, but it's done now.

As of now, I was pushing myself for Physics, Ninjago History and Mechanics and Engineering. My poor phone lay untouched, collecting dust on the top of my shelf to resist the urge to reach for it.

From atop the shelf, my phone buzzed and I sighed, glancing between my books and the device. I guess I could use a small break. I answered the call and put the phone to my ear, "Hello?"

"Nya, hey!"

I blink. Jay was the last person I was expecting to call, but better late than never.

"What's up?"

"Oh, not much. I thought I'd check in on you. We haven't really spoken since...you know."

"I know, I know. I've sorta been absorbed into revision, and I haven't really spoken to anyone."

"Right, right, exams! Tell you what, we'll finish this conversation when it's all over. You focus on studying right now, 'kay? Good luck!"

"Thank you!"

The call ends and I massage my forehead, tossing my phone onto my bed. Just three more exams. How hard could it be?

***

Pretty hard, actually. I'd severely underestimated Physics, the questions being ridiculously difficult to even comprehend. My next exam took place after lunch, and it was Ninjago History. As I ate, I studied the big encyclopedia of History, rereading about the Serpent Wars.

Someone dumps a stack of cards in front of me, and sits opposite me. Jay beams, waving the stack in his hands, "Want me to test you?"

He was so sweet for doing this. I could use all the help I could get, so I nod, smiling. He takes the book away from me, our fingers brushing against each other lightly.

"Creator of Ninjago."

"The First Spinjitzu Master."

"Part 1: What's the name of the desert in Ninjago?"

"The Sea of Sands." With each question I get correct I'm rewarded with a heart-stopping grin from Jay.

"Part 2: Name of the City within the Sea of Sands."

"Ouroborus."

More lightning speed questions, all of which I aced, and Jay seems proud, "You're gonna do great," he tells me, and he sounds so sure of it. I just wish I could be too.

"So...we haven't gotten a chance to talk about-"

"Students participating in the Ninjago History Exam, please make your way to your designated classrooms. The assessment will begin shortly."

"-nevermind." Jay cupped my chin, his thumb brushing against my lower lip, "We'll talk later. You go take this test, okay?"

I nod, and he watches me leave the canteen. I think he wanted to kiss me.

I think I wanted him to kiss me too.
