Nya's POV
Ninjago History went well, to say the least. I ended up finishing earlier than everyone else, and spent the rest of the designated time sketching ideas for Lady Iron Dragon. Jay was picking me up again, and we were going to finish building it all today and tomorrow morning so it'd be ready to present in the afternoon.
Leaving the school, I make my way to the car park where Jay is leaning against his car, keys in hand.
He opens the passenger door for me, "M'lady." I chuckle as he closes the door on me and clambers into the drivers' seat.
Drilling down on the gas pedal, he pulls out of the gates and down the road.
"So..."
"So..."
"We should talk, right?"
"Yeah."
Jay kept his eyes on the road, "What are we, then?"
"Um..." I purse my lips, my eyes reading each stop sign we pass, "We are two well-acquainted students who happened to have had an intimate moment in your pool."
His laugh is deep, switching gears when we approach a bend, "Listen. I don't know much about love, but when it comes to you, Nya Smith, you're my...my it girl. There's something about you that tells me you're the one for me. I get it if you don't want to move forward with this, but that kiss?" Just as we slow at the traffic lights, he turns to look at me, "You can't go back to being just friends after a kiss like that."
"Just...where did you learn to kiss like that?" I ask, and he laughs even more, the car moving ahead as we pull into Wooldrove Close, and through the gates of his house, "Don't get me wrong but I've had my fair share of kisses and romances," he muses, the engine whirring to silence. He pulls the keys out, pocketing them and taking my hands in his, "You're something special, you know?"
"I could say the same for you," I murmured, my eyes going directly to his smile. I lean in, connecting his lips to mine, initiating the kiss, and he doesn't hesitate to grip the back of my neck, keeping me close to him.
I'm also the first to pull away from said kiss, "We should be focusing on the project." Jay seemed confused, "Why the sudden change of mind?"
But I pretend I don't hear him, already closing the door behind me.
"Why are you acting weird?" He asked as he finally joined me inside the garage. I tug off the cloth covering our creation, before getting to work on the wiring, "Hmm? I'm fine, totally fine."
"You kissed me and now you're acting super distant. What's going on?"
I continue straightening out the wiring of the engine, before carrying it to the creation and snapping it into place, humming in a monotone pace. Jay gripped my shoulders, "Ninjago to Nya!"
"I don't wanna lead you on and hurt you," I mumble, fiddling with the tools in the wooden box. The brunet looked confused, "What are you talking about?"
"This. Us. We're kissing in cars, making out in pools, and we don't even know what we are, Jay. This can't go on forever."
I turn to grab some paint but Jay pulls me back towards him, "So I'm asking you now: What are we?"
Thoughts run through my head. Truth? I didn't know what we were either.
Were we really good friends with strong feelings for each other?
Were we lovers?
Or were we just two students who let their hormones get to them?
He clicks his teeth, "Tell you what: I'll give you time to think about it. After your presentation though, I want an answer. But for now let's at least act civil. Sounds good?"
My eyes finally meet his, and I nod stiffly, "It's a deal."
