His Chance

Hailey - Chapter 4

We just finished eating dinner. The chef that Grace hired was amazing. He served Beef Wellington, whipped potatoes and green beans. It was so, so good.  He even made some chicken nuggets for the twins.

It was nice to have everyone in attendance join us for dinner. There were 15 of us altogether. Chance and I, Drew and Grace, Felix and Hannah, Mama and her good friend, Aunt Ginnie, my friend Angie, who did my hair, and her husband, Pastor Dan and his wife, and of course, Josh and Jamie.  Everyone shared stories with Chance and I about memories they had of us that they were pretty sure the other of us did not know. It was fun.

After dinner we had our first dance. We danced to 'This Is It' by Scotty Mc Creery. I also had a dance with Drew and with Felix. Chance danced with Mama, Grace, Aunt Ginnie, and Jamie. Drew and Grace spent a lot of time on the dance floor together and so did Felix and Hannah. Those two seem to be hitting it off.  Next we cut the cake. I chose vanilla because it is Chance's favorite. It was actually quite delicious when he fed it to me.

Finally, it was time to throw the bouquet. The only single girls here were Hannah, Mama, Aunt Ginnie and Jamie so, of course, Hannah caught the bouquet. The only single guys at our wedding were Felix and Josh, so Chance literally handed the garter to Felix. Everyone laughed at the two of them as Felix slipped the garter on Hannah's leg. They really do make a cute couple.

Pastor Dan and his wife, Angie and her husband and Mama's good friend have all gone home. It's just our family that are left now plus our two very good friends. We are all sitting in the living room together looking at family pictures. Grace and Mama have brought out stacks and stacks of pictures and are amusing themselves by showing Chance pictures of me at every stage of my life. He's loving it. Hannah even offers up a few college snapshots from her phone. Fortunately for me, I've never been too much of a wild child so she doesn't have anything too embarrassing or scandalous.

Chance's Aunt Ginnie also brought a few photo albums with her that included pictures of Chance and Drew when they were much younger. She even had pictures of Chance with his mom. She was so pretty. Chance has the same eyes as her. There was even one of Chance with his mom and his dad. Of course, he was just a baby in it but it was so amazing to get to look at these photos.

Chance tells me that he's ready for us to go so Hannah and I go back to my place so I can change my clothes.

"I am so happy that you were able to make it today", I tell her. "It has been so great seeing you. I wish I had more time but, well, I have a honeymoon to go on", I say and I can't help but smile and laugh with excitement. "How long are you planning to stay in North Carolina?", I ask her.

"I'm not leaving until Friday and um, Felix said that he has a room at the same hotel that you and Chance are staying at for the next two nights. I guess he is flying back to London on the same flight as the two of you on Friday. Anyway, the reason I'm telling you this is because he's asked me to come stay there as well. He's offered to get me my own room as I guess it's a pretty expensive place and well he said he really likes hanging out with me. What do you think Hailey?  Should I let him get me a room so I can spend more time with him?  Is he a good guy or what?  Tell me what you know about him".

"Well, he is a nice guy. He's been a really good friend to Chance. They're actually roommates. He's a ladies man though Hannah. He's really up front about that. He told me himself that he just wants to have fun for now. He said he's built differently than Chance.....he was trying to assure me that I could trust Chance, he said he knew that Chance loved me", I tell her.

"Yeah, that's what I thought. I googled him. He's definitely a player.......very charming though. I really like hanging out with him but I already told him I'm not gonna sleep with him. He said that he would still like to hang out for the next couple days, offered to pay for my room because he said he likes me". 

"Huh, honestly Hannah, I don't know what to tell you. Do you want me to ask Chance what he thinks about it?  He knows Felix better than anyone".

"No, I don't think so........truthfully Hailey, I think I'm just gonna do it. I mean, I'm probably never gonna see this guy again but he is a lot of fun and well, it may give us a chance to see the two of you for a bit during the next couple days.  He's fun and well, I wouldn't mind kissing him, you know".  Hannah laughs as she says the last part.

I laugh too.

"I hear you", I say. "He is fun". 

"Who's fun?", Chance says as he walks up behind us in my bedroom. He startles us as neither Hannah nor I heard him come in. "I hope you're talking about me". 

"Oh, hey you", I say. "You scared me. I didn't hear you come in.....Um, no, sorry, I was talking about Felix, but, I would definitely agree that you are even more fun as far as I'm concerned", I tell him and walk over and give him a kiss.

"That's good to hear", he says. "So, Hannah, are you thinking of coming over to the hotel for a few days?  Is that what you two are talking about?",  Chance asks her.

Hannah and I look at each other and then she says, "I'm considering it. I'm on the fence a bit. You're buddy's got a pretty bad reputation I hate to say. I'm pretty sure that I'm not his type". 

Chance smiles.

"That is all very true. He told me he invited you though because he likes spending time with you....if you want my take on this, well, I think you should, I mean if you want too. He told me he offered to get you your own room, well, I've never once heard him make a girl that offer so I do think he truly does like you. You can trust him. He's just happy to spend time with you". 

Hannah looks at me again and then she shrugs her shoulders.

"Why not?  Yeah, I guess I'll go", she says.

"OK good", I say.

"You ready baby?", Chance asks me.

"I think so. I think I've got everything I need.......OK, goodbye Hannah. I guess we'll see you tomorrow, maybe, sometime".

"Yeah, Hannah, Don't look for us too early. This one right here, I'm gonna keep her all to myself for a bit", Chance says as he grabs my suitcase in one hand and my left hand in his other.

"Gotcha", she says. "Don't worry about me and your buddy. We'll entertain ourselves. You two have an amazing time and if we see you, then we see you".

"I love you, Hannah", I tell her and I hug her and kiss her cheek and then Chance and I leave out the door for our honeymoon.
