CHAPTER 2 A Weird and Possibly Magical Gem

Here's some advice: never underestimate mysterious new girls.

I'm on the bus when I see Mary Katz in the seat behind me. She hands me 44 jewels and says to give them away. My jaw drops and I stare quizzically at her. HUH?! Why would a new girl be giving out JEWELS to random people????!!!! She walks away, leaving me dumfounded and staring at the jewels all over me. Okaaaaaaaaaaaaaay,.... That was,.... Uh,.... Real unexpected. Okay, so, um, what to do with these. Uhhhhh AM I DREAMING????!!!! THAT'S A REAL DIAMOND!!!! Uh okay, so, um I need to thank her for these so um okay um. Um . Okay. So. Okay. Um. Yeah. So,...
Once I'm home, I see Mama and smell,..... BANANA BREAD! WEEEEEEEEEE!!!! YAY!!!!! "Can I take a slice?!" I ask hopefully. Mama grins and hands me one. "Thanks!". "Your welcome!". I grin happily. Mama's THE best.

I go into my room, finish my homework, and take out the jewel Mary gave me for examination. I wrinkle my nose in thought. Something about this gem,..... Did I see this before I met Mary?! I don't even know her! Why would she give me this?! It seems oddly familiar. Then I gasp, shocked. A beluga with a crown dancing on land would not have shocked me more. OUR HOUSE is reflected INSIDE the gem. Like, it's as if I saw our house from a top view but IN the gem. Okay, there's something unimaginable about this.

I run down the stairs to show Mama. "Wow" she says when I'm done my explanation. She pauses, lost in thought. "Can I tell Tilly?!" I ask. She nods, clearly thinking. I race back up the stairs.
I text Tilly. I tell Tilly this:
TILLY REED COME OVER TO MY HOUSE RN (side note: rn means right now and I asked my parents earlier for her to come over) I NEED TO SHOW YOU SOMETHING RN COME RN PLEASE!!!!!

And I press send, hoping she's near her iPad. Come on,... Tilly come on!!!!! I sigh. I guess she won't answer within the second,........ Oh well. May as well do some gem-gazing. May, like my last name but not spelled the same!!!!
I barely get a chance to pick up my mysterious new jewel before Tilly answers. Yes! Just perfect timing!!!! I scramble to look at my texts. She responds:

Oof. Okay. Good. I reply:

I like adding the Kaomojis 'cause they're silly. Actually, almost as good as Emojis. I pace around impatiently as I wait for her to come. Ugh I know she can't run here,... Okay distract yourself Sunny, come on, I tell myself sternly. Okay. So. Reading, okay that distracts me. I spend the next half hour reading, while waiting for Tilly to arrive.
An hour later, after I've told her the whole story and she's back at her house, I'm sitting here pondering the whole thing. I find myself wondering if this thing is the key to something, like a secret world????!!!! Huh. Well, I check the time. Okaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay I truly did not expect THAT. Like, its 4:48! I thought like 4 seconds ago it was 2:48!!!! Well, okaaaay so yeah I'll just um play video games now. I log onto Roblox and into Adopt Me!, the most popular game on Roblox. I guess that makes sense. I mean who wouldn't like it?!!

I answer myself. Someone who doesn't have it or someone who left 'cause the scams. But the scams happen way less often now. Like, Tilly got scammed once but I gave her what she had been scammed for and she was SOOOO happy. I like giving people things. It's fun!!!! In adopt me, you get pets, a trade license and these are the pet statuses: Common, Uncommon, Rare, Ultra-rare, and Legendary. You can also get neons if you have 4 grown-up pets of the same kind, I've got 2 so far! I lose track of time as I play.  I love the Adopt Me! music!!!! Then I write. Then I eat. We have chicken fingers and rice yummy yum!!!! Then I read.  Then I think about my letter.

Aaaargh how long does it take to get a letter????!!!!!! Sheesh, lettering is slow all right. Then I think about the gem. I wonder,.... Why on Earth would Mary come to school near the end of the year, give me a stack of gems to give away, and then give me one to keep?! I guess she just gives away gems,....in the hope of a friend???????! Why was she so,...suspicious about it?!
