Two months and counting until the show, and I could not have been more excited. During the course of it, I was actually getting more and more into this "science fair" gimmick I had going on, so I signed up to do a project. On what, I had no idea. That's for Brandon to know and for me to find out.
"I can't believe you're directing a show and you didn't even tell your mom about it! You usually tell your mom everything." Angeline said. We were sitting on the stairs during lunch together, I was eating my food and staying silent and Angie was talking my ear off and barely touched a bite of her pizza.
"Angie, you need to eat, we only have twenty minutes. And yeah, it is getting harder and harder to keep the secret. Every time Mama asks 'how was your day?' I feel the need to blurt it out, but I know I can't. It's only two more months, I can handle it." I said.
Angie nodded then took another bite of her pizza, deep in thought about something. She set the pizza down on her lunch tray and said, "Josie?"
"Yeah, Angie?"
"There's something I need to tell you." She smiled softly at me and said, "Please don't hate me."
I smiled back and said, "Okay, what is it?"
"I have a platonic crush on you." Angeline said, blushing so much her cheeks were as red as a fire engine.
"You know what Angeline? So do I."
"You're kidding." Angeline said. She giggled softly and said, "So, um...QPR?"
"I'd like that."
"JOSEPHINE TRINA BLOCK!" I heard someone scream from the door. I turned back and Cyan St. James was standing at the door.
Cyan was one of the kids in the String ensemble, they were in seventh grade and played cello like me. They were a massive loudmouth, I'm not sure why all the loudmouths want to be friends with a shy geeky dork like me, but here we are.
Cyan ran down the stairs and sat down in between Angie and I. "Hey, idiot."
"Hey, dodo brain." I said, chucking a Dorito at them. "Angie, you ready for Gym class?"
"Ready as ever for the stupid dodgeball thing. I'm bad at dodgeball."
"Me too, Ibragimov." I said, putting away my Tupperware. "Let's get this over with."
________
I was running around in dodgeball, clutching the ball for dear life. I wanted to aim for this idiot boy that was in my science class, but he glared at me and ran the other way.
I was chasing him around the gym, but I didn't notice that there was a cone in my way.
"WOAH!" I yelled, tripping over the cone and falling flat on the ground. My foot twisted and I heard a loud crack.
And then I felt the worst pain I've ever felt in my life.
"Josie? Are you okay?" Angie asked.
"I think something happened to my foot."
_____
"So." Stephanie said, walking into the ER room I was in. "A broken foot, huh? You poor kid."
I nodded and stayed silent, wondering what would happen to the show since I broke my foot. I pulled out my phone and decided to text the cast.
Hey guys, so update. I broke my foot and will be on crutches for four weeks. I'll be able to walk around the week after we're supposed to do the show, so I don't know what to do. I wanted to do it on the day Steph took me in, but I don't know if its possible now. For now, Amethyst, you're going on as Trina.
Did I seriously give up my role to Amethyst Eaton? Yes, yes I did. But I don't care.
The show must go on, with or without Josie Block.
AN: Welp, more angst. And the books coming to a close pretty soon! Only about five more chapters! Hope you enjoyed! Catch ya later!
