_____
Your period was always horrible; the first day left you bed ridden, writhing in pain, and all the rest imparted upon you mood swings that could go from the biggest ego ever to seeing no worth in yourself. Usually you could deal with it by yourself – staying in bed and getting everything Madame Pomfrey could possibly offer to help with the pain, your roommates bringing you treats that filled your every craving from Hogsmeade (and Lily's absolutely to-die-for Muggle snacks). You tended to avoid the boys during these weeks, too scared that you'd say something you'd regret and too moody to deal with their teasing and little remarks that were usually hilarious.
This time around you couldn't be so lucky, however. It'd been a rough couple of months in terms of your mental health. Nothing you did could seem to get the little voice that whispered in your head in the dark and lonesomeness of night out of your head. It followed you wherever you went, stuck like a leech.
You're not enough.
The boys will leave you, why wouldn't they?
They don't really love you, you're a pathetic joke.
They hang out with you out of pity.
They all talk about you behind your back.
You will never be enough.
You walked back from Herbology covered from head to toe in dirt and ready to collapse into the tub and sob – everyone would be down at dinner soon enough so all you had to do was wait for the dorm to empty and you could proceed uninterrupted. The day was horrible. You'd thought you were okay, your period wasn't supposed to come until the following day but of course with your luck, it made an appearance during Potions, forcing you to go to the bathroom while brewing to take care of the situation. Of course, by the time you came back, your assignment was bubbling over and the Professor had more than a few choice words to say in regards to your inattentiveness including your failing grade for the class, snivelling Snape and the other slimy Slytherin present tossing in a couple disgusting remarks in with him as well. During lunch, you both avoided the boys and the scent of food, which sent a jolt of nausea rushing through you, by spending the hour sitting on one of the tower windows – staring at the sprawling landscape of the Quidditch field and the lake sprawled out in front of you and trying your hardest not to cry.
The reprieve didn't last long and you eventually had to leave your solitude on the ledge and trudge to your last class of the day, Herbology. James and Sirius were in the class with you, Remus opting to take Ancient Runes instead of joining you three. At first everything was fine, the boys were busy laughing and yelling about something that happened during the lunch period and about their Quidditch practices to notice your downcast mood. Of course the mixture of your listlessness and the boys not listening to anything outside of their own conversation, the three of you didn't listen to a lick of directions that Professor Sprout was giving out. Soon enough you found yourself covered from head to toe in dirt and itchy in every possible crevice of your body because of a slight allergic reaction from the plants you were working on replanting today. Then when you turned around, desperately trying to hold in your inevitable tears and thus deaf to the warning, Frank's assignment somehow exploded, sending smashed clay careening towards your front – leaving you covered in cuts and scrapes. James and Sirius rushed to your side but you merely brushed them off, not wanting to break down in the middle of class and knowing their tenderness would cause the damn to break, and ran off to the infirmary to get the cuts treated with Frank following you, both to apologize and to get treated himself.
