"How are you confident he won't do to you what he did to my sister-in-law?" She asked. "Hmm? Fuck his student? How do you know it hasn't already happened?"
"Look Devin," Reagan sighed. "I know you hate me for whatever odd reason you hate me for, or maybe I do know, but lets not forget I invited you into my home where you eat my food and drink my drinks. Now I can definitely afford it but I won't have you walking around releasing this negative energy."
She smiled. "You're right. Maybe I should go then."
"You do that."
Devin walked off.
"Hey Rea, I found this letter in the mail for Ags but I'm skeptical on who it's from."
Reagan
The second he handed me the letter I already knew who it was from.
I scoffed. "You gotta be shitting me," I said to myself. Stephen heard me.
"What? Who is it from?"
"My parents," she shook her head. "I can't believe this shit," I said to myself again. "How the fuck did they find our address?" I yelled. "How the fuck do they know about Agnes?"
"You think she was the one to get into contact with them?"
"I don't know, but we're gonna find out." I stomped up to Ags room, Stephan calling behind me. Of course I wouldn't listen. I didn't care. I was raging. "Have you been talking to your grandparents," I yelled when I barged in.
She jumped, clenching her laptop close to her chest. It was almost as if she was hiding something.
"No!" She shouted, her voice shakey. "You wouldn't even tell me their names," she said nervously.
"So what are you doing on your laptop," I said through my teeth.
"Rea calm-"
"Shut up," I snapped at him. "Now what are you doing?"
"Homework," she said nervously. "I swear. I-I-I wouldn't do that to you. You told me about what they did to you and I wouldn't."
"You better not have been," I angrily stomped out her room.
Stephan
"Sorry," I told Agnes. "She-"
"Yeah, I know," she gave me a weak smile.
"You uh, you need help with your w-"
"No," she said all too quickly. She held her computer closer to her chest. "I-I almost done."
I furrowed my brows, curious as to what she'd been actually doing. I knew when something was off.
"Aggy, what's actually going on?" I sat at the end of her bed. "Why are you being so protective over your computer?"
"No reason," she smiled. She placed it snuggly in her lap. "I just...I'm-"
"Is this about your mother wanting to throw a party?"
She shook her head and sighed. "I really don't want too but mom is so excited. She tell you she cried?"
"Her eyes were puffy when I saw her come downstairs," I laughed a little. For a moment we sat in silence. "Look don't be afraid to disappoint your mother. If you don't want to party, let her know before our house is flooded with drunk teens."
She gave me a small smile. "Okay," she whispered.
"Okay," I stood up to kiss her, she slammed her computer shut. I was going to question it but it was pretty late in the night. "Now even though you're going to be an official teen in about an hour, get some sleep. Teens have school."
"Okay dad," she smiled.
I kissed her on the forehead.
I walked out the room and went back down, finding Reagan crying in the kitchen.
"Rea?" I hugged her from behind. "What happened?"
"They are terrible people," she cried. "Read this."
Dear granddaughter, Agnes.
You don't know us but we're your grandparents. We know you'll be fourteen tomorrow and decided that we want the chance to get to know you.
I'm Diane and here co-writing is your grandfather, Walter. We want you to know us. The true us. I'm sure your mother has made us seem like we are terrible people but your mother is ill. Always have been. It'd be shame have you turn out like her.
Your mother ran away when she was young. Feeling as though we were suffocating her when in reality we were trying to help her. There's that illness in play. She tried to end her life, blaming it on us. Has she ever told you?
She will tell anyone that it was our fault and that we are terrible.
If you're interested in knowing us, email us or send a letter back. You have our address.
The letter was a bit sickening.
"My depression and pain was nothing but an illness to them," she cried. "A curse upon the Reese name."
"Baby," I wrapped her in my arms.
"If I knew this was how they felt I would've done it til I was successful," she snatched the letter out my hand and began walking off.
I stopped her, grabbing her arm. "Don't say that," I pulled her into my body. "You have a beautiful girl upstairs who's proud of," I pushed her back so that I could look her in the eyes. "She is so proud of you and would do anything to make you happy. You do realize that, right?"
She laughed a little through her tears. "I love you, I love her."
"We love you too."
"My life would've been nothing if I hadn't had her. Literally," she laughed a little again.
"Exactly," I smiled, kissing her on her forehead. "So stop crying. Don't let these people get to you. Okay?"
"Stephan," I turned around, Devin being the voice. "Mom and dad is dead."
