Fast forward a year. The Cooper family had been attending Jubilee church. Jayden got his younger brother coming to church with the rest of the family every now and then. The young girls of the church had befriended Jayden and his brother and invited them to all the church events.
One event was a cookout and fireworks for the Fourth of July. On this day, all the members of the church ate their fill and were prepared to be blown away by the firework show.
The show had started; the black sky lit up with a number of colors that brought smiles to everyone's faces. Stomachs were filled with hot dogs, burgers, chips, and soda. It was the perfect way to celebrate the holiday, but for Adeline and Jayden, this holiday would come to mean much more than fireworks and hot dogs.
There was a pause in the firework show and Jayden went inside the church to use the restroom. Adeline was asked to go inside and grab more ketchup and chips. As Jayden was coming out of the restroom, he thought he might grab another soda from the church kitchen. He stepped into the kitchen to see Adeline searching for the ketchup.
Jayden decided that this was the time. He spoke up and gently said, "Adeline, can I speak to you about something?" Adeline turned around surprised and not knowing that Jayden was in the church building. She grabbed the ketchup and invited Jayden to the rocking chairs on the porch of the church. Jayden followed, and with each step he took closer to the door, the more butterflies he felt fluttering in his stomach.
