Chapter 12

Tom turned away from his kids as his phone rang and saw that's it's his wife.

"Hi" he answered not even masking the sadness in his tone.

"I just got off the phone from talking to the kids! Yes I know everything! Dylan's in the hospital, Skylar failing school, Charlie is about to be expelled and Nora taking time off from her first really job to babysit!" She yelled at him angrily.

"Can we do this later Kate?" He asked tiredly, "no, Tom, you promised me you would let me know if you couldn't handle it" she reminded him frustrated.

"Am doing the best I can" he told her being equally upset now, "please let's talk later, bye" he hanged up the phone with waiting for answer.

A few days later Tom had the repair man over once more to fix the chandelier as Nora and the kids came back from grocery store.

He came down the stairs and noticed that message on the answering machine, so he press the play button.

"Hey Tom, it's me! ok, am coming home. Now I know this is a strain, but the booking company has arranged for the Oprah Winfrey show to tape at our house tomorrow. Which is you know, is great! But am gonna really need you guys help ok, we're talking Bakers full force, boys you clean up the outside, girls the inside. I want everyone in nice fancy clean clothes, and Tom if you could please supervise this one last thing I'll really appreciate it, also Skylar is meeting me at the airport so our family will all be together, bye!" Kate's message ended as Tom rolled his eyes.

From the top of the ladder the repair guy laughs, "looks like somebody got his Jimmy whipped"he joked. Tom only was away not caring, the repair man kept on laughing only to fall over the ladder hurting his back, then the chandelier fell on top of him.

Calvin pack a small bag of clothes as Sky watch him from the bed, "tell me again, why did I agree to go back home?" Sky asked curiously.

"Because you don't turn your back on family even if they stress you out. Plus I help you to get all your work done and get your grades back up so your good for another month" he told her as he finished packing her bag.

She only smiled at him, she knew she couldn't have gotten her grades back up without his help so she was gratefully for his help.

"Have I told you how much I love you recently?" She asked him smiling at him, he walked up to her smiling, "yeah a lot" he answered her, "well, let me show you" she told him pulling him onto the bed with her.

The next morning bright and early Calvin kiss his girlfriend goodbye as she took a taxi to the airport to pick up her mom.

"Mom!" Sky screamed happily when she saw her mom outside the airport and they ran to each other hugging.

"I missed you" they said at the same time causing them to laugh, they taxi driver got out and took Kate's bags and put it in the truck as they got in the back seat.

"Look honey, I know your grades fell and am so sorry about that" Kate apologized as the drove off.

"Mom, it's fine, Calvin help me get my grades up and I did some extra credit work so my grades are up again and totally fine for about another month" Sky told her happily.

"Ah, Calvin, so when am I going to meet this amazing guy?" Kate asked curiously, "soon mom, am just worried about dad's reaction. Nora already met him, Charlie and Lorraine have seen pictures of him so we were all just worried about dad's reaction" Sky explained to her.

"What about my reaction?" Kate asked curiously, "your going to be ok with who is family is, it's just dad" Sky told her, "who's his family?" Kate asked even more curious.

"If I tell you that, then you'll know who he is before meeting him, and I want you to meet him first" Sky answered her.

They spoke about school and what has been happening at the house since Kate left for New York until they reached home.

Skylar noticed Hank's car but said nothing about it, she also noticed that the yard looks clean, but what caught her eyes the most is Charlie driving off.

"Charlie?" Kate called out wondering where her oldest son is going after seeing him driving off with an upset look on his face.

"Mom and Sky is home!" Tom heard Lorraine yelled somewhere in the house the girls ran passed him to greet their mother and sister.

"We missed you guys, but dad is stress to a point of having a total meltdown, Charlie is half step away from juvie and Mark frog-" Kate cut of Lorraine rant about what's been happening.

"We'll talk about it later, Oprah is coming" she said as they walked inside the house. All the kids walked off leaving their mother and father alone, "what's the deal with Charlie?" Kate asked him immediately.

"Fine, thanks, how are you?" He greeted her back, "am sorry, hi" she said to him.

"Hi, Charlie got kicked off the football team" he told her, "what?" She asked in shocked.

"Don't worry am handling it" he told her as there was a knock at the door, Kate only shakes her head at him as he move away from her to answer the door.

"Shake, President Gearheart" Tom said surprise that they're here and he shook the president's hand.

"Tom we need a minute" Shake told him seriously, he let them in and they took a seat in the livingroom.

"The university is prepared to make an investment into the program but we want some reassurances" the president said.

"What's does that mean?" Tom asked curiously, "we want to know that you are committed to the football program" Shake told him
